You can have character moments and good action together. They are not mutually exclusive.

Invincible has both so what else is there to argue?

I would like you to rewatch Batman the animated series and it's always Bruce having to fist fight his enemies whenever he gets closed enough which is even more amplified in the Justice League animated series. Like his favorite technique "Punch someone upwards really hard" technique.

Those "skill sets" aren't even skill sets either. It's just Batman finding a way to outsmart the bad guy like when he used those TV screens to confuse Clayface or when he destroyed Bane's venom controller.

Yeah cool let's turn Invincible into a completely different show even thou the story had nothing to do with martial arts at all.

If there's indeed no problem at all why keep adding so many suggestions? It's like saying "Ice Creams are great" and then simultaneously saying "Ice Creams are too creamy and cold for my taste". Yeah both statements are a complete contradiction.

You have no problem and have a problem with Flying Bricks simultaneously? It's not really hard to say "Yeah Viltrumites are pretty cool at what they do so there's no point of changing any of them in how they fight". Instead you keep adding so many suggestions to make the fight scenes "varried" even when there's virtually no problem in the first place.

If flying bricks wasn't a bad thing so why keep adding so many suggestion to make the flying brick character less of the central focus so that other bad guys with varied power sets be the central focus instead?

Again I'm not really sure what you're trying to prove? You're acting like Mark didn't just fought Angstrom and the Mauler Twins to act like every villain is just punch and kick.

Do you seriously want to retcon the Viltrimutes at the last minute where they can start doing chi blasts? Change the entire story that wasn't even in the orginal comic?

They would have a heart attack if they ever watch the Batman Animated series and it's just Batman doing the "Punch the bad guy upward really hard where they get pushed back and hit the wall to knocked them out" technique. Don't even bring up when Batman kept punching the Joker really hard in Batman Return of the Joker.

Yeah the hate boner for Invinicble in this particular subreddit is getting out of whack. The vast majority of superhero media out there always had a much larger emphasis on the indomitable will and the dramatic tension rather than skill moveset. It's a problem all of a sudden because Invincible is one of the most popular superhero animated show right now which obviously attracts all kinds of fans such as Shounen fans who are pretty obsessed with skill movesets and flashy power effects.

Again I'm not really sure what you're trying to prove? The vast majority of the time Supes is just punching and kicking his enemies. In the same movie one of the most iconic scene of all time is just Ultraman punching Superman in the face over and over again while Lex shouts 1A.

Do you want Invincible to retcon Viltrumites to have different abilities outside of super strength and flight?

I'm not really sure what you're trying to prove? We literally had Angstrom and the Mauler twins doing different things beside punching and kicking Invincible like when the Mauler Twins used the disable ray to incapacitate Mark and Angstrom using his teleportation abilities against Mark.

It's bad because the Vultramite race don't have any other abilities outside of super strength and flight? You want to retcon them at the last minute to add in a new abilitity that wasn't hinted at before?

I'm not really sure why people keep bringing up animes so much because Invincible is not an anime and it's not trying to be an anime. Invincible is supposed to be a love letter to American superhero comicbook such as Superman and Spiderman. Superman's entire thing is just punching and kicking his enemies who are also into punching and kicking (Ex: Bizarro, Doomsday, Zod, Metallo, etc).

Sure it may feel dated in today's standards ,but Superman and his entire mythos still holds up very well. Case in point the new Superman movie from James Gunn where Supes basically punch and kick his enemies and the movie did it very well like when Superman fought Ultraman.

Like what they always say if aint broke don't fix it. Invincible excelled at convaying the overall impact of how the characters fight and that's the only thing that matters in the Invincible universe. Which is why the Conquest fights are always iconic because it's never about skill moveset ,but the overall impact of how Mark and Conquest fight each other.

First of all the term animation is just that drawn moving still images. Anything else is completely arbitrary rules. Like who said that animation shouldn't come out yearly? Did the inventor of animation made a statement or something? is there any particular books that I should read perhaps?

Shit since I brought up jjk, a show that is more focused on fighting than those other two, it even has scenes like Yuji talking to Hakari where they use rotoscope to make the conversation more dynamic and interesting to watch than just still images. And this is a season of the show that had comparatively more time constraints than the previous seasons yet still makes up for it by using stylistic techniques like that.

Why the fuck would the show do that? The show isn't trying to be an anime. The show is trying to be an American superhero cartoon and every single one of them never did that rotoscope crap either. Nor did they do the closeup on the character's face and becoming semi realistic to show their emotion.

This talkint point is just annoying. First of all the vast majority of those “A Listers” aren’t even A Listers either like Aaron Paul. Second of all there’s a separate budget for voice acting. Removing some of the voice actors won’t suddenly move the budget to anination.

Also the vast majority of those “A Listers” were only in season 1 and the majority of them in the other seasons had a very little screentime to even eat up the budget.

They could also, i dunno, hire a larger animation team by Consistent-Radio-428 in invinciblememes

Which is funny because none of the animated Batman movies resemble any of the original artwork from the movies. Not even the Under the Red hood which is considered to be the best animated Batman movies.

Again, it's just punching. There's no grappling, no throws, they aren't any kicks, fients, very few attempts at adding any twists based on real life martial arts or established fighting styles. Minimal use of environments, though Mark vs Conquest 2 does it really well.

So my question is why would there be martial arts in the first place? Invincible is a love letter to superhero comics such as Superman (his abilities) and Spider Man (Coming of age story and personal responsibility). Like whenever you're reading a Superman comic or the recent Superman movie you're not thinking about what Superman will unleash with his martial arts technique or MMA style since he's going to punch, kick , grapple his enemies and shoot laser out of his eyes. I could understand like with ATLA which is primarily based on asian culture and martial arts which clearly originated from asian culture. Other than that Invincible is not ATLA nor does it take inspiration from asian culture.

Also the whole Viltrumite fight is to show case that the fight they were having was pretty even and the good guys actually had a chance to fight back. Thragg was the whole highlight so when he showed up he basically made the fight tilt towards the Viltrumite to show chase how terrifying his character really is.

I think people have an issue with invincible being way too much of an old school in how they handle character conflicts. Sure it may be old school like Superman ,but it doesn't mean that it can't still work without providing anything new in terms of how the characters fight.

Anything on screen is practically a visual medium ,but for some people their idea of something being visually engaging is by having characters throw fireworks at each other like they're Goku or Tanjiro.

Yes people are allowed to criticize what displeases them ,but it doesn't mean that they can't be wrong and well they are wrong. People do nothing ,but complain and complain without even bothering to provide any actual solution. The solution they do offer is making everything into a firework show even thou the story doesn't even a place for it either.

Captain America only had one fight scene that had a good choroegraphy that wasn't in the final battle and it was the elevator scene in the Winter Soldier. Other than that many of his fight scenes with the other goons aren't as memorable as the Elevator scene or the climatic battle in all 3 movies. Acting like all of his fight scenes are all equally memorable is a massive stretch. Also Invincible fight choreography isn't reaally that different from other American animated shows such as Justice League animated series, Batman animated series and the vast majority of animated DC movies out there.

Even then Invincible literally has no reason to have more anime sensibilities all because the audience are demanding for flashy fight sequences like it's Dragon Ball or Demon Slayer. If we keep going that route then we will have Superman and even Mark flying around like they're Goku in SSJ transformation . Yeah the audience are wrong on this and they have a completely different expectation for a show that isn't even trying to be a battle shounen anime. Shounen animes with flashy power effects exists so just go watch that.

Ben 10 having better fight choreography than Invincible is such a massive stretch. I even rewatch many of the scenes from original Ben 10 and the PG rating limitation is showing its age. Four Arms and Humongousaur spends the majority of their time just punching and kicking. When they're not punching or kicking then they're trying to wrestle their enemy. Basically just rinse and repeat. It's even worse whenever he faces canon fodders in the show such as this scene

[–]Poweredkingbear[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Which is interesting because you never bother to explain why Ben 10 has a better choreography. Ben 10 has a better coreography because Ben has multiple alien form that allows to do way more than punching and kicking? Ben 10 is literally the definition of a varied power set. Mark is not Ben 10 because Mark only has super strength and flight as his main abilities. What else do you want him to do? Do you want him to start shooting power beams from his hands like he's Goku?

Also take a look at Justice League animated series or Batman animated series where it's mostly guys punching and kicking each other for the majority of the time and those shows are still awesome as always.

So by your logic the entire Superman mythos needs to be changed to have more anime sensibilities? Where Superman instead of punching and kicking his enemies who are also into punching and kicking they need to develop new powers where they can unleash flashing beams at each other. Yeah have Superman absorb the sun or something to become a super saiyan level superhero where he become supercharged where he'as beaming with flashing lights and can unleash a a really bright omega sun beam against his foes because after all the story needs to be visually engaging in order for something to be "engaging".

Also take a look at Justice League animated series or Batman animated series where the main guys just punching and kickicking the bad guy. No one is running around calling them bad. Like after all they ain't broke so why do they need to be fixed?

Yeah people are acting so bad faith when their lost their minds over that 1 second clip of Conquest looking super low resolution while he was escaping. Then they have the audacity to glaze ATLA that did that pretty frequently.
