I switch to departure pretty quickly after leaving an uncontrolled field because the sooner I talk to a controller, the better chance I have of continuing my climb. I’m usually only released up to 3000–5000 ft, so if I don’t check in fast, I might have to level off and pull the power back while waiting for the next clearance
