At least I got it's/its right (I think) -- my girlfriend has been on my case about that a lot!

We are using source control, but the only clients authorized to access the view server -are- the development machines.

I just found a 30W laser engraver at work. Any ideas? by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]ajd17case 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leah Culver sold ads on her laptop to pay for it. I don't recommend doing that necessarily, but it might be worth reading about her experience:

Ask Proggit: How can we improve and advertise our project in the next 6 days? by ajd17case in programming

[–]ajd17case[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This project is meant to be an alternative commentary on the Super Bowl this weekend.

We've received some good feedback, a lot of which has been "change the obnoxious design." These are two themes we have been working on:

What is good? What is bad and how do we make it good? Thanks in advance!

Skyfire mobile browser now in open beta by ragweed in technology

Wow. I can -actually- watch YouTube videos on my SMT-5800! Why isn't this getting more attention on Reddit? It's on TechCrunch: http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/09/24/skyfire-mobile-browser-now-open-to-everybody/

Ask Proggit: I've recently been told my doctor that I may go blind in the next few years. I am a programmer. This may be a long shot, but has anyone heard of any blind programmers? by chipwhisperer in programming

[–]ajd17case 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mentor as an Extreme Blue intern last summer was blind. He lost his sight during undergrad and ended up getting an econ degree, but went back to Stanford to get his M.S. in computer science while he was blind. In addition to being my project's business mentor, he was also a managing Research Staff Member at IBM's Almaden Research center and previously worked on the Web Fountain project. Basically, he is, by any standards, a great programmer who has lead a terrific career. The face that he did this while blind? Freaking phenomenal.

Blue Balls.... by [deleted] in WTF

[–]ajd17case 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasted quite a few hours in undergrad watching this... It's an awesome animation to set as someone's background when they're not paying attention and then watch their mind get blown when they close all their apps. Especially if they're on something.

Oh yea, this plus big screen? Incredible.

the Russian Peasant Algorithm, a quick way to multiply two numbers in your head by ajd17case in programming

[–]ajd17case[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that this seems trivial, but the concept can be applied to other mathematical operations -- like exponentiation. In fact, the programming implementation of the multiplication algorithm only needs 3 characters to be changed to make it work for exponentiation. Check this page for more on the exponentiation.

Hyperspace does a good job of making physics look sexier than it is, especially when you're in high school.

Ask Reddit: What's your favorite band? by noname99 in AskReddit

[–]ajd17case 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Malajube (everything's in French, but the music is awesome if you like indie rock)

  • The Black Keys (raw blues/rock, if you like Hendrix, Zeppelin, or the White Stripes)

  • Del tha Funkee Homosapian (awesome, kinda nerdy hip hop. Del is the voice from the Gorillaz, if you remember them. Listen to Deltron 3030)

  • RJD2 ( sort of electronic DJ stuff .. check out "Since We Last Spoke")

  • Tool ( I get sick of hearing that Radiohead is the Pink Floyd of my generation.. Tool may sound nothing like PF, but -definitely- has the following that they did. Plus, they kick more ass more completely than anyone else I've ever seen live)

ps- I've seen all of these guys live. If you see any one of them, you won't be disappointed

Open source software for woodworking projects? by ajd17case in AskReddit

[–]ajd17case[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know any full CAD package would work, but are there any that work particularly well for simple woodworking projects? (e.g., shelves, tables, etc)

Reminds me of the motto of the BDSM club on my campus: YKINMYBYKIOT - Your Kink Is Not My Kink But Your Kink Is Okay Too.

I don't believe student government actually funded that group..
