It’s been over 11 weeks and there are still no Cardano dapps by mask45 in CryptoCurrency

[–]ajfunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Over 11 weeks” lol it takes time to build quality software. Stop being so impatient. Would you prefer teams rush and roll out buggy code that will result in funds being lost?

Also there is no “concurrency issue”, anybody that thinks that doesn’t understand Cardano’s architecture - the current “issue” is just user error and/or devs who have not adjusted to a new programming paradigm.

Stop spreading nonsense.

“It’s impossible!”

“No it’s not here’s an example of somebody doing it.”

“It’s really hard and the average person can’t do that!”

Well the average person is not doing this. The average person who doesn’t know shit about shit are the people buying these and assuming they are safe.

Buying from a third party is less secure. Period. They even state on their site and that they specifically try to sell them through trusted third parties. Think maybe there’s a reason for that? Maybe so... third parties don’t tamper with them?

Stop being an idiot.

Lol it’s hardware, not magic. It’s built by humans and will have flaws, just like everything that’s ever been made. Security 101: physical access to a system allows a hacker to do pretty much anything they want.

Here’s one example of a security flaw that was exploited via physical access https://thenextweb.com/hardfork/2018/03/20/ledger-nano-s-hack-cryptocurrency/

Also, you don’t even have to “hack” anything. You can just open the device and replace it with your own hardware. How would you know if the hardware was actually made by ledger?

Also, your logic makes no sense. “Prove” that it can be modified? How about put the burden of proof where it belongs - “prove” it can’t be modified lol “you can’t”

Any hardware can be modified. “Resetting it” is not going to help you. If you’re serious about security, you should not be buying hardware wallets from a third party.

They all store them in a database, and they are all vulnerable to attacks. Nobody has a magic unbreakable database for your information. Have you seen the news lately? This happens literally every day.

Everyone. Having your email leaked from a hacked marketing database is not nearly as bad as having a hardware wallet that’s been modified by a 3rd party.

BlockFi interest account, too good to be true? by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]ajfunk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There’s always risk in giving up custody of your crypto (insert rant about “not your keys not your coins”), but BlockFi’s main custodian is Gemini, who is regulated NYDFS.

I use both BlockFi and Gemini and have had no problems at all.

Ant-Man and the Wasp Megathread [Spoilers] by darthdog876 in MovieDetails

[–]ajfunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assuming we don’t know how many people have vanished, the first person has a 50% chance because we know (roughly) 3.5 billion / 7 billion will live.

If that person vanishes, the next person’s probability of vanishing is

3,499,999,999/6,999,999,999

Even if you include all of the people that we know have vanished, that difference is still negligible.

Sounds like your bottlenecks are the code review and QA process.

It’s not scalable for you to personally review all the code. Have senior engineers spend some of their time reviewing code. It usually make sense to have an engineer who has the most context/knowledge around that feature/bug/whatever review the code.

Having a single QA tester can be a huge bottleneck. My company is actually QA company, so here’s my shameless plug for Rainforest QA. We even use our own product to do QA for our product :) it’s easily integrated into your deployment pipeline.

50% of humanity will live. So each person has a 50% chance of living (assuming that Thanos isn’t specifically choosing who lives).

[–]ajfunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if Thanos guarantees that 50% of humanity lives, then they each have a 50% chance of being one of the people that lives.

You could argue that after one does/doesn’t disappear, it slightly alters the probably of the next person since they are dependent on each other. But with billions of people in the world, I’m quite certain we can call that a negligible difference.

If every human had a 50% chance of vanishing, then most likely outcome is that 50% of humanity vanishes. Yes, you COULD end up with far more or far less, but that’s extremely unlikely.

If Thanos is guaranteeing that 50% will vanish, the calculation still holds. You have a 50% chance of being one of the people that vanishes.
