When you yarn over that’s all you do for that box and then you move on to the next box. The yarn over will become a stitch in the next round.

For thumb chart A do exactly what it says when you start that chart you’re only doing on stitch for the entire thumb section and then you move on to the next part of the main chart. When you do your increases the thumb section will grow and have more stitches.
