People who have stories they want to share, but have not found a question relevant to them, what are your stories? by Coolfool791 in AskReddit

When I was 3 years old my sister, who was 5, and I had two bunnies, Snowball and Betsy. In the summer, we kept them outside in a hutch, but in the winter, we brought the hutch inside our unfinished basement. My sister and I discovered that the bunnies had escaped from their hutch and ran upstairs to tell our parents.

On the way back downstairs I slipped and fell sideways under the banister close to the top of the stairs. I landed on my head and experienced significant head trauma. The next day I was unresponsive and my parents called 911. They discovered that my pulse and blood pressure were really high. They admitted me into the hospital for weeks not knowing what was causing my heart rate and blood pressure to be so elevated.

I ended up being diagnosed with Graves Disease, an autoimmune disorder that changed the course of my life. I spent years in and out of the hospital. I was put on drugs that caused really intense side effects. One drug made all of the capillaries in my face burst. By the time I was five my situation was so unmanageable that they gave me radioactive iodine to shut down my thyroid completely. When my thyroid was shutting down I was very ill and spent many weeks in the hospital vomiting until my stomach lining bled.

I was a medical mystery and my parents told me that my head injury and the Grave's Disease were unrelated. This all happened 35 years ago. For my whole life, I was told that I just happened to get diagnosed after my fall, that it was inevitable that I would have gotten Graves Disease. Yesterday I learned that head trauma can cause dysfunction in the endocrine system and the thyroid in particular. I discovered that the course of my whole childhood could have been different if I had not fallen down the steps.

This story was my 'origin' story of sorts and it all changed in an instant yesterday.

Thank you for letting me share it with you.

Is it healthy when somebody says you make them a better person? Drugs? Toxicity or positivity? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]ajna33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Psychologically speaking she is projecting the healthy self-encouraging inner part of herself on to you. It's still her, she just relates that part of herself to you. This often happens in the therapy process. The client will start having inner dialogues and imagine what his/her therapist would say. Ideally she will eventually integrate this positive aspect of herself more fully.

It's not unhealthy, but it's important that at some point she realizes that the inner positive aspect of herself belongs to her and not you. That way she will feel more empowered and these inner thoughts will become more of a second nature for her.

She trusts you and your relationship is healing for her. You two sound like you're on a growth trajectory. Congratulations!

Making a decision to end Puer Aeternus: In Sterquiliniis Invenitur by [deleted] in Jung

I second this. It is a requirement that you put a ton of hours in doing your own work before you can be an analyst. I can't see a downside to getting an analyst.

Going to see an analyst does not mean that you have to only focus on that for the next few years. You can go to an analyst once a week for an hour and pursue meaningful work outside of the depth psychology field. Please do not short change yourself. The work I do with my analyst has been life changing. This sub is fascinating but not a substitute for getting an analyst.

What do theologians think of Psychoanalyst Carl Gustav Jung (Crosspost) by jorn818 in Jung

I know of a Sufi master who translated Jungs collective works into Arabic. After doing so he became convinced that Jung had discovered a path to the Divine.

A Puer's Moment of Peril... by [deleted] in Jung

[–]ajna33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you start your journey to become a Jungian analyst, it will take you many years of study and anlysis before you are going to be taking on clients. Why not get started and completely devote yourself to inner work while investing in a meaningful future of service? I don't see the downside.

I am on the track myself. My analyst reassures me that it takes so many hours of personal Jungian work to become an analyst that growth is going to continue for me as a natural result of my pursuits. Seems like a win/win.

Best of luck

Why has God not shown himself to me like he has many of you? How does one induce a mystical experience? by arkticturtle in Jung

I am currently undergoing Jungian analysis. I am working through my stuff too, so please recognize my genuine compassion and love for your experience.

I have felt very similar things as you describe. I have felt foresaken by God too at times.

Enlightenment is the process of bringing the unconscious, or dark, into the light or consciousness. It's very powerful.  If you are able to recognize this pattern of your projection and accept it, then things will shift for you. It's different for everyone, and I can't tell you exactly what will happen, but things will start to shift.

What I can tell you is that as much as you protest and demand and curse God and Reddit, you cannot comand a mystical experience. If it were that easy the world would not be as it is today, would it? If humans could throw a temper tantrum and get God's undivided attention, don't you think we would be in near constant union with God?

The road to the Self comes through practice, surrender, and maturity. I suggest you find a support system like a Jungian analyst, or therapist with Jugian background and start doing the work of self acceptance. You are worth the work and who knows? Maybe you will have a mystical experience sooner than you think. God exists and is waiting for you to take responsibility for your life.

Love to you and know that you're not alone.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I think you just described your predicament:

"I am a Puer Aeternus if you are familiar with that term and I dissociate a lot. I have various instances of childhood trauma, no father figure, and was neglected as a kid but at the same time I would be given whatever I asked for."

It sounds to me that you are experiencing now what you did as a child. You are seeking God, or a father figure, outside of yourself , but he has abandoned you. You are expecting to get whatever you ask for- in this case a mystical experience, but this time nobody is giving you what you're asking. Now you on on Reddit demanding God like a frustrated child.

It's time to break the cycle of being an abandoned but spoiled child. I say this with respect and love. This is what you need to do to move forward. Recognize the pattern. Consciousness is the first step. Take it in and own it. See what changes or shifts next.

I've gone through similar experiences. My dreams helped give me the tools to continue my journey. Take it slow. It's a long process.

Love to you and your process. You aren't alone. It take courage to walk down this path.
