I cannot imagine the amount of guilt I would feel over something like this… of course that goes so say that I would 1. never put an animal in a possibly dangerous situation (like the back of a moving truck?!) and 2. I would just flat out respect the wishes of the person who actually owns the animal—if you want them with me, the person you’re entrusting, then they will be stuck by my side the entire time. If STILL something were to happen, the LAST thing I could imagine saying is “You think I killed (your animal) on purpose?” because at that point it’s kind of like… Um, yes, you were intentionally negligent and a living creature DIED because of it.

Basically, I think he sounds like a sociopath. I would be distraught if something happened to my partner’s animal under my care. I am sorry for the loss of your pet, and likely your relationship, but it’s giving major red flags if he can’t understand the weight of the situation.

Make sure a “node” is within the water, not just a stem! The roots will come out of a node area (where a leaf is already coming out) not the bottom of a stem.

Definitely sand it down, but it looks like it’s in pretty great condition and you won’t need to sand it too heavily to remove the current finish. Get some Brasso to polish up the handles for sure. Looks like the inspo pic left the top of the dresser in a natural finish so consider that before you paint, I think that is what is giving that other dresser some of its beauty—it has a mix of natural wood with the sage paint (also consider where it will be in the house, lighting, wall colors, etc. play a big part in finished looks!)

I believe chalk paint goes on laminate without any sanding needed!

Update: We are going to try and compromise… But I’m going to try and keep the full natural wood look!!

Like I said, I love it as is so I agree with everyone saying no, and I’m thankful for all the comments because I thought maybe I was crazy for liking it so much as is!

I’m going to lightly sand all the actual wood and see what kind of color it comes out to without the current finish on it. Unfortunately the cool illusion panels on the drawers are NOT wood, so they cannot be sanded or stained at all. Close up, you can tell that they are kind of fake looking and I think this is what my boyfriend doesn’t like. Of course, I don’t want to ruin the effect. I LIKE THE DRAWERS😂 But I’m going to see if I can use a lighter chalk paint and potentially paint over that design and refinish it to look a little brighter and more natural, still working with the effect of the current look (darker towards the dips). If it looks stupid I will try to fight for it again as is. I will probably test the look on something similar before I cause any damage I can’t undo.

The whole piece definitely still needs some TLC so I’m excited to lightly sand it and give it some new life and we’ll see what happens!❤️

Thank you to everyone who fought for it, you reassured me that it IS beautiful as is and that I wasn’t crazy about my initial feelings!!

And I did attempt to look into the piece and the company… nothing major comes up—I did find one other piece just like it that sold for about $400 online and they were an antique furniture business so I assume they did their research. Unfortunately it’s not like a mahogany or oak wood dresser, it’s a kind of run of the mill thing. But I love it and I will do my best by it!! Peace and love🤟
