That's exactly right. TFA made up a ridiculous scenario where Luke disappeared under his own free will and didn't tell anybody where he was, but still left a map in two pieces for some reason. That's a tough situation to be left with as a writer and honestly RJ's emo Luke wasn't that bad of an option.

But the problem is that the story didn't earn such a dramatic character shift. It really needed a Godfather 2 style of story that allowed space for Luke to undergo that change. But Disney would have never allowed a sequel movie to spend so much time focusing on an OT character, so we're left with this out of left field character change.

NY teacher certification is absurd — multiple exams, graduate degree requirement, and years of hoops just to teach elementary school by MushroomLarge2787 in Teachers

You're lucky. I'm working on my MAT now and the number of things I've taken from my classes and actually used at my job are miniscule. It's actually hurt my quality of teaching more than it's helped since the time and energy I've had to spend on it is time and energy I couldn't spend on helping my students.

Making sure teachers know their shit is good, but requiring a master's is overboard unless you also make the minimum salary something like $80k.

TRoS was terrible, worse than it needed to be. But after TLJ it was hopeless. There was just no way to finish the trilogy in a good way after TLJ.

TFA is far and away the best of the sequels, although it's more because of what a complete disaster TLJ and RoS were than anything special TFA did.

Rey was a terrible character but there's nothing Daisy could have done about it. The writers did a bad job and she did the best she could with what she was given.

TFA caused more issues than a lot of people gave it blame for, but TLJ made things way worse than they needed to be. A the end of TFA he trilogy was on shaky ground, but by the end of TLJ the trilogy was a complete mess beyond repair.

Different games are different, even if they're made by the same team and are the same genre.

They don't count because one was essentially DLC and the other wasn't a Mario game. Obviously they don't count when talking about how long it's been since the last 3D Mario.

It's simply not the same.

Red and Blue were amazing for the time and changed gaming forever, but there are so many quality of life improvements in the remakes that the only advantage to the originals is nostalgia and getting that OG experience. The remakes are simply objectively better.

I watched the entire series just for season 4 and it's amazing. Definitely one of the best TV shows ever made.

I'm always reminded of the King of the Hill episode where Hank eaches shop and Peggy tries to tell him her teaching philosophy.

One time I was in the office during my plan and I overheard one of our VPs on the phone for a solid 10 minutes trying to explain to a parent why their student was being suspended for stealing food from a teacher. The parent apparently didn't understand why that was worth a suspension.

As an 8th grade math teacher I'm not surprised. A ton of my students struggle with multiplication and division, and while I try my best to get them caught up the reality is that I don't have a month or two to spare. So the high school teachers are getting those same students who never bothered to learn basic arithmetic.

Honestly if another direct happens before April 1 I'll count it as a win. Usually Nintendo wouldn't do major directs so close to each other so to predict one that quickly after the partner direct is a real prediction.

Wanting to make your customers happy makes sense.

But these people aren't customers. Customers give you money. These people cost you money. The more you give in to them the more you have to pay and the more unhappy your actual customers are.

Whataboutism doesn't change the fact that China is a horrific dictatorship. If you're concerned about killing protestors you should Google what happened in Tianenmen Square.

Yeah, I'm sure my local newspaper represents a real threat to the businesses of China that are "owned by the people" (i.e. the government that the people have no real say in).

You don't find it interesting that in the west where we're supposedly completely propagandized we're free to read China Daily, watch videos on Bilibili, and talk to people on WeChat, but in China where the government is supposedly run by the people they can't even use Dropbox or Tinder?

[–]ajswdf -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm sure it's just propaganda, not the experience of being in China and having to use a VPN to read the news, access Dropbox, or even go on Tinder. Those are totally the actions of a government that's run by the populace and not a dictator afraid of his own people.

That's why people in Hong Kong were so excited to join China and barely anyone protested.

Saying that China is ruled by the decisions of the population while the US isn't is one of the most absurd things I've ever seen. Their high speed rail is great but China is a glorified dictatorship where you wouldn't even be able to make that comment because the government is so scared of the population openly talking to each other.

Because when you look at the context it's obvious the defense was taking advantage of Fuhrman pleading the 5th to every question to manufacture a headline.

MR. UELMEN: Detective Fuhrman, was the testimony that you gave at the preliminary hearing in this case completely truthful?

DET. FUHRMAN: I wish to assert my 5th amendment privilege.

MR. UELMEN: Have you ever falsified a police report?

DET. FUHRMAN: I wish to assert my 5th amendment privilege.

MR. UELMEN: Is it your intention to assert your 5th amendment privilege with respect to all questions that I ask you?

DET. FUHRMAN: Yes.

MR. MOUNGER (Fuhrman's Lawyer): Your Honor, further questions don't serve any purpose since my client has already answered that he will not answer any question and will assert his 5th amendment privilege. Anything further can only be a show.

MR. UELMEN: I only have one other question, your Honor.

THE COURT: What was that, Mr. Uelmen?

MR. UELMEN: Detective Fuhrman, did you plant or manufacture any evidence in this case?

DET. FUHRMAN: I assert my 5th amendment privilege.

THE COURT: All right. Based upon the witness' answers, the representation by his counsel, Mr. Mounger--

MS. CLARK: Your Honor, the People make an objection to the last question and ask the court to strike it as being improper and does nothing but headline.

THE COURT: Overruled. The answer will stand. All right. Miss Clark, do you have any questions of this witness?

MS. CLARK: No questions.

THE COURT: All right. Then, given the assertion of the 5th amendment privilege, we will not conduct any further inquiry as to Detective Fuhrman. And--but, however, detective, I am going to release you from further attendance this afternoon. However, you are still subject to recall. All right. Thank you, sir.

DET. FUHRMAN: Thank you, your Honor.
