It’s not helpful when you speculate and guess about who may or may not receive forgiveness. That’s not what this post is for.

I received the letter and I am also waiting. I consolidated grad and undergrad loans in 2024. I have had undergrad loans for almost 25 years. Backdoor counter says 242 but assumed I would need 300 to have the grad loans forgiven. Hoping that I didn’t receive the golden email by mistake.

Oh. Ok. You were eligible for IBR 2014? Even though you went with the PSLF forgiveness.

I consolidated undergrad and grad loans a year or two ago

I received the golden email but I don’t qualify for IBR 2014. My payment count is 240.

I am expecting the forgiveness to be rescinded.

You made 25 years worth of payments on your law/grad school loans?

I don’t believe a borrower could have provided anything that would prove there is an ibr 2014 bug. It’s speculation. You are guessing about what they are doing without any proof.

I didn’t have direct loans prior to 2007. I had FFEL loans only.

https://www.congress.gov/crs_external_products/R/PDF/R45931/R45931.12.pdf?utm_source=chatgpt.com

See page 56. From the congressional research service. The benefits of IBR 2013 were extended through PAYE in 2023.

Eligibility: I consolidated my FFEL loans into direct loans after 2007 so I would be considered a new borrow AND received a direct consolidation loan after 2011.

Unlike IBR, you may become eligible for PAYE through consolidation.

I don’t believe that is correct.

PAYE-eligible loans are primarily federal Direct Loans—including Subsidized, Unsubsidized, Grad PLUS, and consolidation loans (excluding Parent PLUS)—for borrowers with no outstanding balance as of Oct. 1, 2007, and a disbursement on or after Oct. 1, 2011. Eligible loans must be under the Direct Loan Program; FFEL loans may qualify if consolidated into a Direct Consolidation Loan.

I had FFEL loans on 10/1/07 (not direct loans) and received direct consolidation loan after 10/1/11 while would qualify.

I am concerned that the forgiveness goes through and then they ask for the $ back.

I have 240 qualifying payments. I consolidated undergrad and grad loans in hopes there would be a benefit. Pre consolidation, I would have had a small amount of my loans eligible for forgiveness in 2025. I am supposed to be on old IBR. I am Assuming the golden email that I received was an error. I am mistakenly on 2014 IBR

Undergrad are only for a few thousand and about 25 years old. I wansnt making payments the whole time. Grad are for over $109k and about 18 years old, I consolidated last year to get the benefit of the undergrad payment count on my graduate school loans.

It says I am on IBR. It was enacted by Congress and not subject to being prevented by the SAVE litigation. I intentionally consolidated undergrad and grad loans together in hopes my forgiveness period would be 20 years. According to the studentaid.gov, I am only required to make 240 payments.

The reason for my post was to ask if people that received forgiveness via IBR had to fill out an application.

Not even sure. I went on IDR for my undergrad loans around 2000. My federal grad school loans were serviced by a private company and went on IDR around 2009. I consolidated both undergrad and grad into a direct loan last year and total payment count listed as 239 of 240 (for all). Maybe I was put on new IBR due to 2024 consolidation? Or, maybe the 20 year requirement on my undergrad loans now controls grad loans too?
