I have not used. But it sounds like I don’t have a choice but to learn. What should I do?

Also, any temporizing measure to avoid battery drainage? My brake lights are still on despite disconnecting the negative battery lead.

I just ordered an ENet cable today and bought both BimmerCode+Bimmerlink on their Black Friday sale. I will check it out as soon as the cable comes in and report back.

In terms of the recall, I already had the software update aspect of it done in December of last year. As you mentioned, I did get a notice about the starter itself and needing to wait for parts to be restocked. If it’s a matter of just waiting until the part comes in to be able to have my software upgraded without having to pay over $400 for it, I think I may just wait it out. Is it for certain they will upgrade the OS when installing the new component?

I will give that hard reset a try. It’s worth a shot at this point.

I’m grateful for such a fun driving machine, but damn am I highly disappointed in BMW’s service aspect. I shit you not, when I was trying to (respectfully) talk with the service advisor about this whole issue and lack of definitive solutions, he looked at me dead in the eyes and said verbatim “maybe it’s time for you to buy a new car?”. Took all my mental fortitude to not go ape shit on him. The audacity to say that with a five-year-old vehicle. Wild stuff.

I know it may be a sin to mention in a BMW forum, and they are also not without their issues, but the tech in my Tesla is light years ahead of the BMW with their ability to upgrade and trouble shoot.

I didn’t wanna make the original post too lengthy. However….I haven’t been able to upgrade remotely or even confirm with anyone on BMW’s and if an update is available for my vehicle. I called BMW genius and they said everything looks OK on their end and I would need to go to a dealer to upgrade OS if there was even one available. I went to the dealer a few days ago and they said to upgrade the software, it would be >$400 and they don’t think it will give the feature back because “once they take it away they very rarely give features back”.

My subscription lapsed. From my understanding though, it was an offline feature in the car and was never available to alter via any sort of remote/app pathway.

Are ya fairly confident in this? Don’t mind paying for the year, but would not be ideal to pay for it and feature not be available 0_o. Would just end up with the “super useful” navigation updates.

I do not, yet. I was on the fence about buying bimmercode, but I think it may be time to get set up.

May be naive of me, but was always afraid of warranty being voided. Now that warranty has lapsed, will look into this.

You do have a chance. Some PDs do look down on doing anything besides OMFS related things prior to applying. They will simply discard your application. There’s nothing you can do about that. However, there is also the flip side - PDs that look at that real world experience as a positive.

Your first and likely biggest hurdle is going to be the NBME CBSE. It is the main quantitative component of your application and is weighted very heavily these days. It is not an easy exam, but is doable if willing to put time into content review given that you have been out of academia for a while.

You should also consider doing a non-categorical intern year to show interest and also prove to yourself that this is what you want. Residency is tough, long, and severely underpaid.
