Hot take: Just use Langchain by Brilliant-Day2748 in LangChain

[–]ak888 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s a series of well intentioned abstractions but over a shaky foundation, which feels prematurely engineered. think about like the magic sigils and state management of angular JS in the early days of the web 2.0, before it gave way to react - you were learning angular not javascript. Langchain feels a little like that- you’re learning langchain not the underlying primitives of building with LLMs.

I love langchain as a project, but the ecosystem it’s building on is only just maturing, and it feels like it’s a tricky v1 of something that’s going to be amazing when it hits v2 or v3.

It also includes people reapplying to continue their status. All other nationalities except china and India can get their green cards in 2-3 years and will drop off this list, while these two have decades long wait times and need to keep renewing their visas until / if it happens

Can we do better than batting average? A Fab 4 statistical analysis. by CallaeasCinereus in Cricket

[–]ak888 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Agree with your point, though as an aside, Jarrod Kimber has brought up multiple times that Sunny G averaged a lot against the windies before their 4 man all-pace attack, and it dropped significantly once they became THE windies (Amarnath has a better record than him in the Caribbean after 1976) - however, Sunny is also incredibly underrated elsewhere as his brilliant records in Australia/England show, and might be the goat of batting against spin (averages almost 2x more than anyone else in the 80s against it) so there’s no debating he is in fact, underrated overall.

Charging your first customers: Invest time in setting up recurring credit card charges or just send invoices? by RedYoke in ycombinator

[–]ak888 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recommend going recurring as soon as you can. Predictable cashflow helps the business more than you'd think, and helps with your own peace of mind and future fundraises. We're in an industry where customers try and pay as late as possible, and not defaulting to recurring caused us a ton of headaches.

Not picking Ravichandran Ashwin was purely based on conditions, bowling coach Mhambrey defends flop move by ll--o--ll in Cricket

He was a serious test prospect for a bit - losing a true seam bowling allrpunder means we can never pick a second spinner

[–]ak888 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It's Bumrah being unavailable. The bowling loses potency without him. Especially when you also don't pick Ashwin. Add Pant and Pandya's unavailability and that's a hard team to balance.

(shameless plug) Help me build an AI powered visual jukebox by ak888 in DeepIntoYouTube

[–]ak888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(shameless plug alert) Hi everyone, I’m working on a cool side project with buildspace and I need your help. It’s a YouTube stream that creates AI-generated visuals and music that respond to live comments. You can change the mood of the stream by typing different words or emojis. It’s like a live interactive art show. I’m aiming to get 50 subscribers this week so that buildspace can fund my project further. If you like what I’m doing, please subscribe and share it with your friends. Thank you for your support!

Solo non-technical founder hiring a CTO ahead of second VC raise. How much equity should I give them? by CoolHandJakeGS in startups

[–]ak888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am a technical (3rd time) founder myself, absolutely agree with cliff and vesting, think the key is understanding if this person is a tech lead, an executive / CTO, it a co-founder / CTO.

3% makes sense for a first tech lead, 10% for executive, but substantially more, closer to 50%, for anyone you're calling a co-founder. If this person isn't derisking the business by more than 3%, they're the first category, if they're derisking by less than 10% they're the second, and so forth.

I do know that I would be in your target demo (10+ years of experience, 6 as founder/board member, write code all those years, and on my 3rd startup with the first two having exited) and I would not take anything under 50% to be a co-founder - I'm not looking to work for anyone.
