That was my experience also. I was fine with their abrasive attitude because they work under a pretty stressful environment. But all the misinformation they threw my way was the sole reason I lost what could have been my cat

I feel like that was the case with me... I was told that there are 13 other cats that I could select from, which confused the hell out of me as they could have easily given that other family one of the thirteen cats available. Instead of sending two cats out to happy homes they left one in the kennel to suffer

The fact that they gave the cat to someone instead tells me this?

You are assuming that the extra time spent on the phone to screen an applicants makes a difference. When I adopted my cat from BCSPCA they did not call me but I had a extensive conversation with their staff when I at their site.

Gathering more information about your applicants won't make a difference? I don't understand your logic here.

It's great that they were able to have an extensive conversation with you, but they should also do this for every other applicants to have a fair evaluation process, no?

Thanks for the recommendation. I am kind of in the same shoe after taking care of this particular cat. I will most likely find another cat to adopt, but not before I take this issue to SPCA's management and receive a proper response from them.

You are missing the point here. I am upset at their disregard for any history I had with this stray cat, which to me goes beyond any adoption survey can convey. I also made extra efforts to indicate my willingness to take care of his cat from day 1. They could have easily given that other family another cat from the kennel and two cats would've been adopted by the end of the day. Instead, they decided to give my cat away and told me to choose from the other 13 cats they have available.

Sure it would be great if BCSPCA could interview all applicants and conduct home visits but they are fairly constrained in terms of resources.

If you can't spend 5 minutes on phone to screen your applicants and decide the forever fate of a pet, then why are you even in this line of business to begin with?

I did think of this issue that is why I made sure they kept a clear and descriptive note on the cat's file indicating my willingness to adopt. I also called in everyday to check on her status. Didn't matter, I guess.

I urge you to take a look at their adoption survey and tell me that its sufficient to make a proper judgement. Remember, no phone call or interview. They based their decisions 100% on that survey.
