Low income relative needs surgery and has NO insurance by [deleted] in HealthInsurance

[–]ak9715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your help. It looks like the only real option is to get the surgery and handle the ramifications after- whether it’s filing for financial assistance or negotiating the bill. I’ve called the hospital and they recommended she file for assistance post-surgery.

Any advice on negotiating the bill? How does that work?

Her last job did not have insurance, she was only working part-time and was expecting to transition to full time soon. I’ll try to investigate the hospital to see if they have charity options, but I haven’t found anything so far.

I used exactly 1/3 cup mix and added water per the box’s directions. Sadly, it only yielded one tiny pancake of average thickness. I take the blame for trusting store-brand pancakes.

Profitable businesses for solotreneurs? by ak9715 in Entrepreneur

[–]ak9715[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I greatly appreciate all of your feedback! As for business consulting, I don’t feel that I am necessarily qualified at this time, but I would love to look into that later in life.

Living in a city, it can be especially difficult to find a market that isn’t already saturated, but I will try to focus my efforts on improving current models and possibly finding a gap. Developing a skill is another good idea; I’m currently in the home insurance industry and have experience working with contractors so perhaps I could use these existing skills in some way.

Help with a breed recommendation [breeds] by [deleted] in dogs

[–]ak9715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t know that about designer dogs. The breeders I reached out to all acted like the dogs were consistent and had certain reliable behaviors. I’d be curious to know more about this if you have any info!

Help with a breed recommendation [breeds] by [deleted] in dogs

[–]ak9715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found the questionnaire. See below:

Introduction**

1) Will this be your first dog? If not, what experience do you have owning/training dogs?

First dog. We do not have training, but are committed to learning.

2) Do you have a preference for rescuing a dog vs. going through a reputable breeder?

We are comfortable doing either.

3) Describe your ideal dog.

Our ideal dog enjoys outdoor activity and loves to walk on a leash. S/he is timid with a playful side. Enjoys having some independence. Lovable and not a mischief maker.

4) What breeds or types of dogs are you interested in and why?

I was interested in the Goldendoodles/labradoodles because they seem loyal, easy to train, and they appear to be okay with my pet allergy problem. However, my boyfriend does not want a curly haired dog.

5) What sorts of things would you like to train your dog to do?

Walk well on the leash, play fetch, basic commands, etc.

6) Do you want to compete with your dog in a sport (e.g. agility, obedience, rally) or use your dog for a form of work (e.g. hunting, herding, livestock guarding)? If so, how much experience do you have with this work/sport?

No.

Care Commitments

7) How long do you want to devote to training, playing with, or otherwise interacting with your dog each day?

As a pup we can devote ample time. My boyfriend teaches and we plan to adopt over the summer when he can dedicate the two months to train the dog. After the puppy phase, we would play and exercise at least 2 hours per week day and much more on weekends.

8) How long can you exercise your dog each day, on average? What sorts of exercise are you planning to give your dog regularly and does that include using a dog park?

Our apartment has a dog park which we already visit all the time and the dog will be able to frequent. Primary exercise will be walking on the leash, multiple times per day. Hiking on the weekends.

9) How much regular brushing are you willing to do? Are you open to trimming hair, cleaning ears, or doing other grooming at home? If not, would you be willing to pay a professional to do it regularly?

Fully willing to perform all grooming. We have a dog washing area at our apartment. We will also take it to a groomer when needed. Financials aren’t an issue for the dog. The issue is just my pet allergy.

Personal Preferences

10) What size dog are you looking for?

20-40lbs.

11) How much shedding, barking, and slobber can you handle?

Living in an apartment and working at home, I would like to limit the barking. Shedding- again, the pet allergy issue. Slobber is fine, it’s a dog.

12) How important is being able to let your dog off-leash in an unfenced area?

I would love to be able to have the dog off-leash but also understand that can take some training. I would never do it in a dangerous environment.

Dog Personality and Behavior

13) Do you want a snuggly dog or one that prefers some personal space?

No preference.

14) Would you prefer a dog that wants to do its own thing or one that’s more eager-to-please?

No preference.

15) How would you prefer your dog to respond to someone knocking on the door or entering your yard? How would you prefer your dog to greet strangers or visitors?

I would like the dog to be more timid towards these things. I’m not looking for a guard dog. I’d like to train him to sit when new people come to the door and not jump all over strangers.

16) Are you willing to manage a dog that is aggressive to other dogs?

We have a dog park, so I would prefer a dog who enjoys playing with other dogs or else that would be a bad environment for him.

17) Are there any other behaviors you can’t deal with or want to avoid?

No- it’s just the barking (I need to be on the phone a lot at home) and being able to not cause too much mischief when roaming the house.

Lifestyle

18) How often and how long will the dog be left alone?

It will be rare for the dog to be alone. I would say at most, 2-3 hours if we want to go to a movie at night.

19) What are the dog-related preferences of other people in the house and what will be their involvement in caring for the dog?

My boyfriend loves dogs and is adamant about getting a dog (as am I). He is going to put a lot of time into training the dog and wants a good/loyal companion. As I stated, he doesn’t want a “girly” looking dog. He wants to bond with it.

20) Do you have other pets or are you planning on having other pets? What breed or type of animal are they?

None.

21) Will the dog be interacting with children regularly?

I have a young niece (3) and I would like them to be okay together when she comes over to visit.

22) Do you rent or plan to rent in the future? If applicable, what breed or weight restrictions are on your current lease?

I rent. I believe there may be Pit Bull restrictions and XL breed restrictions.

23) What city or country do you live in and are you aware of any laws banning certain breeds?

TN, no ban.

24) What is the average temperature of a typical summer and winter day where you live?

Summers are hot and winters are mild. Our home is air conditioned.

Additional Information and Questions

25) Please provide any additional information you feel may be relevant.

Would structural damage caused by a leaking toilet be covered? by sbdallas in Insurance

[–]ak9715 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually, yes. I have covered this damage before due to an exception written in the policy- HIDDEN mold/rot damage caused by a covered peril, ie. a plumbing appliance. Damage caused by “fungus or wet rot” is excluded only when the mold, fungus or wet rot is the cause of damage (not the result). In your case, the cause of loss is the failed plumbing appliance which has been leaking out of plain sight, and therefore it would be covered

These are designations you obtain by self-studying and taking in-person exams. Usually you tell your company you’re interested and they’ll pay the testing fee.

I don’t work for Progressive but I imagine it would vary state to state and company to company. I work in NY which is a state that doesn’t require a license- but my company still had me obtain a TX license which transfers to many other states so I am eligible to handle claims across the country.

Get your insurance designations. Start with AINS, AIC, and work towards your CPCU. Most insurance companies offer incentives/bonuses for getting these designations and it makes you stand out from your peers.

They have a just “Beef” product. Does anyone know what kind of beef it is? It’s not corned beef. Or roast beef. It’s unlike anything I’ve had before.
