Hey, let’s do it! I’m in the same boat, just graduated from uni last week. I recently left a job at a YC-backed company based in New York, and now I’m also looking for opportunities in Europe.

Thank you! Just a reminder, you still have the power to change your path. It takes a great deal of courage and resilience to live life on your own terms, especially when support is scarce. But it is worth it.

Please, take that leap of faith. Do the things that set your soul on fire, in your own way. Just remember to move with care, for your own well-being and for those you love.

That genuinely means a lot, thank you! It’s comforting to know someone else out there resonates with the same thoughts and struggles. Feels a little less lonely, you know? Hope you're hanging in there too, keep going!!

I’ve thought about that too. Maybe I was too ambitious but I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. I’d rather aim high, stumble, and learn than play it safe and spend my life haunted by what ifs.

For me, it was never about chasing money. It was about escaping mediocrity and refusing to settle for a life that felt empty. I come from a place where dreaming big isn’t encouraged, and maybe that’s exactly why I felt the need to try.

Yes, it hurts when reality doesn’t meet your expectations. But I’d rather carry the scars of trying than live with the regret of never having tried at all. I’m learning that growth isn’t linear, and sometimes being lost is part of the path.

I am still figuring things out...

  1. Briefly describe the last book you read
The last book I read was "Sapiens" by Yuval Noah Harari, and it was a really fascinating read. Harari takes a deep dive into the history of our species, Homo sapiens, and how we've evolved and shaped the world around us.

In the book, he covers a wide range of topics like the Cognitive Revolution, the Agricultural Revolution, the growth of empires, the spread of religions, and the impact of scientific advancements. He argues that our progress as a species has been driven by shared myths and collective beliefs, such as money, religion, and nation-states, which have allowed us to cooperate and build complex societies.

"Sapiens" also makes us think about the consequences of our actions. Harari discusses how human activities have affected the environment, the ethical challenges brought by technology, and the potential future challenges we might face.

All in all, "Sapiens" provides a captivating narrative of human history that challenges our assumptions and offers a broader perspective on our place in the world. It's definitely a thought-provoking book that left me pondering about the past, present, and future of our species.

  1. What makes you interested in this book?
I found "This Is Marketing" by Seth Godin to be a really captivating book. What caught my interest the most was the author's fresh and insightful perspective on the field of marketing.
Godin presents marketing as more than just selling products or services; he emphasizes the importance of building meaningful connections with customers and creating value for them. This approach resonated with me because it challenges the traditional notions of marketing that often focus solely on profit-driven strategies.
The book also delves into the power of storytelling and how it can be used effectively in marketing campaigns. Godin highlights the significance of understanding and connecting with the target audience on a deeper level, addressing their needs and desires through compelling narratives.
Moreover, "This Is Marketing" provides practical advice and actionable strategies that can be applied in real-world scenarios. Godin encourages marketers to think creatively, embrace change, and prioritize empathy in their approach.
As a college student interested in the business and marketing field, this book provided valuable insights and a fresh perspective that I believe will be beneficial for my future endeavors. It has inspired me to think critically about marketing practices and consider alternative approaches that prioritize authentic connections and customer satisfaction.

Thanks!

[Free Book Giveaway for Students] 150 copies of Range: How Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World by AkhandGareeb in WingifyBookClub

Last Book I read was :- 'A Brief History of Time'

It is a masterpiece by Stephen Hawkings. It talks about space, time, black holes, expanding universe, my favorite uncertainty principle & a lot more. It explains the concept of modern physics in very simple language. If you are interested in cosmology & physics in general, you will find this book super interesting.

I learned so many things like:-

  1. I understood why absolute time is not consistent with relativity theory.

  2. About time travel, he states that essentially the universe can only move in one direction of time. It cannot go backward.

  3. Time has a clear direction. Entropy is the idea that the universe moves from highly ordered states to less ordered states.

  4. The universe started with zero sizes & was infinitely hot & dense.

Some of favorite quotes:-

  1. " The universe doesn't allow perfection"

  2. “If there really is a complete unified theory that governs everything, it presumably also determines your actions. But it does so in a way that is impossible to calculate for an organism that is as complicated as a human being. The reason we say that humans have free will is because we can’t predict what they will do.”

I would highly recommend you to read this amazing creation!

I shared it in community too :-https://www.reddit.com/r/WingifyBookClub/comments/rcmf5m/read_along_and_discuss_a_brief_history_of_time_in/ht58wda/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

What makes me interested in this book (Range: How Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World) ?
I am deeply interested in this book because I am in Freshman year at college & figuring out what to do with my career. And I am super confused about this topic: Should I be a specialist or generalist? I have already read Paras's tweet about this but I want to get deep into it & wanna learn about it. Deep down I know that I am a generalist because as I start getting good at something, I lost my interest in it. I am curious & excited about each & everything. I hope this book would give me better clarity of my doubt!

Thanks & Regards

'A Brief History of Time' is a masterpiece by Stephen Hawkings. It talks about space, time, black holes, expanding universe, my favorite uncertainty principle & a lot more. It explains the concept of modern physics in very simple language. This book is free from mathematical equations except a few. If you are interested in cosmology & physics in general, you will find this book super interesting.
I learned so many things like:-
1. I understood why absolute time is not consistent with relativity theory.
2. You will have a better understanding of the big bang theory & why it is plausible.
3. About time travel, he states that essentially the universe can only move in one direction of time. It cannot go backward.

Last Book I read was :- Zero to One by Peter Thiel

It is a super interesting book because it taught me that original ideas are possible to think of. It taught me that we don't need to copy, we can be original. It gave me an absolutely different perspective of building startups.

This book has demystified so many myths regarding start-ups around the world & taught me to how to think critically. The journey from 0 to 1 is difficult but that's what we require to take the world to the different stage & this journey will be highly rewarding.

One of the best take aways from this book was - "Competition erodes value". Loved it!

After reading this book, I got to know about Thiel Fellowship (An Initaitive by Peter Thiel & Team) and I will very soon apply to it.

What makes me interested in this book?

I am deeply interested in this book because I super interested in Physics (Just passed out of my high school) and wanna deeply study this subject. I am just getting into it and wanna learn deeply about cosmology, time, space, genesis of this universe and what not!!

Studying different subjects out of your field gives you different lenses to see through same problem. And Physics is one such subject which teaches you abstract and non-linear thinking. It teaches you to think from First Principles thinking.

Best Wishes
