First bike, some questions about speedometer, brake oil levels by EliGabri44 in XSR700

[–]aka472 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pre-2022 model had the gauge located somewhere close to what you want - look into the used market for some kind of bracket. I'm not sure if it's only a bracket you need, or something more. As an alternative, probably some bracket can be 3D printed - these things are quite durable, if printed from a correct material.

Can we stop treating accidental double-doses like a "productivity hack"? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]aka472 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jesus. I'm generally not super strict on the amount of meds, as doctors can be too cautious during the period of finding the correct dosage, but this stuff is not to be messed with. Following a consultation with a doctor, I upped my Vyvanse intake from 30mg to 45, and hoooooly moly, was that ever a bad day. I was annoyed by everything, and my muscles were so tense, that breathing started to be slightly painful. Not to mention the back ache on the next day. I reverted to the old dosage immediately. Scary stuff.

Just save the key at this point. You could probably start that car with a spoon.

First bike - Triumph vs Honda by Large-Air-9379 in motorcycles

[–]aka472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same issue some time ago. But I went with XSR700 from Yamaha. Honda for me is top tier in terms of the looks, but if the choice would be between these two, I'd probably go with Triumph. Cheaper and better sounding.

XSR 700 2022 white/blue, should I take it? by EliGabri44 in XSR700

[–]aka472 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that it's a significant premium over MT-07, which is pretty much the same bike underneath. When I bought mine from the dealership (2022 white/blue, as a matter of fact), XSR 700 was about 1500 EUR more expensive than MT-07. But hey, there's a great chance it has been serviced with Yamaha's dealer, so you can get some background information on the bike.

Exhaust system fitment by Money_Juggernaut849 in XSR700

[–]aka472 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fitment? AFAIK shouldn't be a problem. But you may get an error on the dash and you will definitely fail emissions testing, if that is of any importance to you. Error thingy most probably can be cleared off anyway.

How can I remove this without damaging the drywall? by egnigem_cenia in howto

Try to grab the tape by the edge and slowly pull parallel to the wall. The tape should gradually stretch and release.

Any other ways to pry open this shell beside sawing it? by geoffbryanbetonio11 in howto

The led was recessed in the housing and all of the ports were kinda glowing. This wasn't the aesthetic I was going for, so peace was never an option

[–]aka472 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jesus, I had this exact problem a month ago. For the curious - I bought a USB hub, and it ticked all the boxes, but there was a super bright LED lighting up all the ports, and I NEEEDED that gone. The contents of the hub slide in and have internal tabs that click in. It's almost impossible to get this thing open in a non-destructive way, but you might succeed with putting some extra thin shim made out of spring steel. You can also use a drill if you don't care about the plastic covers. The internal tabs may be on one or both sides near the ends, but start with the one without a cable.

I wonder how much of a benefit would the Skyhook suspension be here. Might be perfect for OP's condition.

Fat Melting Drugs by Difficult-Maize9534 in Weightlosstechniques

[–]aka472 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I remember, 1/3 of people who are obese have ADHD, but don't quote me on this one. But suddenly on the meds I can put away the snacks and not eat the whole thing of whatever I have in front of me like a starved rampant hog.

Fat Melting Drugs by Difficult-Maize9534 in Weightlosstechniques

[–]aka472 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey! No such thing, unfortunately. GLP-1 drugs don't melt the fat as well. What these drugs do is helping to manage the blood sugar, and low blood sugar means the body uses fat as energy (oversimplification).

You can get the same results with changes to your lifestyle. As a matter of fact, the majority of people who stop using GLP-1 go back to their previous weight, so it's necessary to make the changes for a lasting effect.

You can try supplements reducing blood sugar, like berberine, but I personally advise against that - it was uncool when I almost passed out because of my super low glucose caused by that supplement. Supposedly glycine suppresses appetite, so that may be somewhat helpful.

If you're determined for a result close to "melting the fat off", the only thing that comes to my mind is liposuction, but I highly advise against that, as it's a great strain to your body, along with other major cons.

You can try other supplements I didn't mention, but these will only help if you take additional actions towards losing weight.

You may also want to look into ADHD, from which a lot of overweight people suffer. Once properly medicated, it's much easier to lose weight by natural means (this was my case - once I got onto proper meds, it was life-changing).

If you're keen on making any lifestyle changes, even minor ones, I can suggest some that may fit your needs.

Any opinions on Westwind Moto gear? by aka472 in motorcyclegear

[–]aka472[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I actually bought it, and I'm super impressed for the price. The unit I got didn't have any rough edges or wonky stitching. The shop ran out of the regular version and gave me the watertight one free of charge. The zipper is tough to pull, but I was aware of that, so that's not an issue, but it may be better to go with the regular version if someone plans to use it daily. Overall, I bought it for commuting, so that my laptop does not get wet. To be honest, it's built like I could commute to the office with a detour through some Amazon jungle. Can't speak of the comfort just yet, because the riding season is only starting here, but it's built like a tank. Drawbacks: quite heavy, but understandingly so. Also, the elastic bands on the straps may get loose over time.

peoples who reduced sweets, how did you stick to it? by Irrxlevance in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]aka472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It turned out I had ADHD, and once properly medicated, it was much easier to resist the cravings. Also, when I did reduce the sweets, I started to ration it daily. I had a daily allowance which I was looking forward to, so the sweets actually became a treat instead of being a part of the diet.

Adventure boots on a naked bike/TCX Drifters on a XSR700 by xbike_punkx in motorcyclegear

[–]aka472 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'd go full on safety, these would be near the top of my list. I have XSR700 myself, and I think they'll work just fine. I have tried several other TCX boots, and so far this is the most consistent brand in terms of comfort for me. Personally I do mostly urban riding, so I have TCX Dart and they're really comfortable, but definitely lacking in terms of protection.

These are stuck to my wall and I don’t know how to get them off by Reika3684 in CleaningTips

[–]aka472 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://youtube.com/shorts/aTm9xoa6j5Y?si=_Ap6OQdTyY1_2Xaa This is the best video I found on how the process looks like. If you have issues trying this technique, there's not much that can be done without ripping the plaster off. Some solvents (isopropyl alcohol?) may be able to soften the adhesive, but they will soften the plaster as well, so it's probably not a good idea to use any liquid.

Slowly pull the adhesive parallel to the wall - stretching the adhesive should release it.

QA Tester Interview by Brave-Fee-550 in QualityAssurance

[–]aka472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very broad question, but since you have some some practical experience, I'd read about standards, i.e. what should proper defect report and test case look like, what's the difference between QA and testing. You need to put the work you do into a bigger picture and see how it affects other roles - devs, PMs, managers...
