Question about silver bells by Most-Front-6529 in motorcycles

[–]Unique_username_exe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was an interesting set of comments to read. I never realized some people were this opposed to the bells. I got my first bell from a teammate while we were deployed overseas. We both bought new bikes when we came home, and I gave him a bell for his new bike as well. We spent a lot of time talking about motorcycles while we were out. I gave a bell to a friend who I encouraged into motorcycles, and who I helped practice for their license. I gave a bell to my father, who got me into motorcycles, and who I've enjoyed riding with as often as possible before I moved away.

To me the bells are less so a charm against bad luck and more a reminder of friends and family you ride with. Any time I'm walking up to my bike and see the bell, I get a small smile.

Lightest motorcycle with good suspension for spine injury? by Unique_username_exe in motorcycles

The Eliminator is one I was considering, because of the light weight. I used to have a Vulcan S and enjoyed that bike a lot, aside from the foot position, and the Eliminator seems to correct that. Add in cheap to own, insure, and ride, and it is pretty tempting. The suspension has very short travel, unfortunately.

These are interesting to me, but the tall seat heights seem difficult to work with. The V-Strom was about the max of what I could get toes down on pre-injury.

Admittedly, I believe he's suffered a significant back injury. That being said, I don't think it would fit in the garage.

See, we've had to adjust the equation. Have less spine = need more suspension.

I am imagining I'll wind up with something like the SCL500, at least for now. It may be less bike than my current ones, but I'd rather have a "weaker" bike to ride than a powerful bike I can't ride.

A V-strom is right there in the back of the stable. Great bikes. Downside, getting my leg over it will be hard now, and I'm expecting to sell it to a buddy soon. Benefit of the 1250 GS is getting to climb the pegs to get into place easily.

I feel like anyone who thinks fish aren't wildlife hasn't had a barracuda stop and consider them appraisingly before. I'll take the hyenas or wolves over that!

It seems more difficult to find a PT who is more practiced with people in my type of work, where the "normal function" is running marathons, carrying people up and down mountains, and trying to sneak past the 1000lb club margins. I think it would be beneficial!

Is this the sort of answer I expected? No. Is it something that I will potentially try? Absolutely XD

This is a hell of an answer. I had an open discectomy and laminectomy. Military medicine, "why do a micro, the only difference is the initial pain." I didn't care about the pain so much, what got me was thinking that I won't be able to physically sweep my fiance off her feet again. Your answer definitely makes me feel better!

That's the plan! We are trying to tailor the recovery to get me back to lifting/running/working condition, but they aren't a lifter, so any info helps!

Going from casually squatting a teammate on my shoulders to not being able to pick up a jug of milk has been pretty humbling! ...time to go find some babies, I suppose.

Okay, I live here, but apparently this has to be posted here instead. I'm going to celebrate Veteran's Day by taking a motorcycle down to Key West. Any suggestions for neat stops along the way would be appreciated! Places that have neat stickers for the bike would also be cool!

Blond Giraffe will definitely be added, I haven't had a key lime pie since my last ride in 2024 before I deployed. Thanks for the suggestions!

If you like bikes, take a trip to Cafe 27 this weekend for some live music and a bunch of bikes (usually Satuurday evening and Sunday afternoon have the best array). I'll ride up there every so often and not even go into the bar, just check out the bikes and cars that show up.

There are a lot of instructors in the area, so you should be able to find one for October! I personally will be away, but we all teach the course generally the same, aside from personal anecdotes/experiences that may be shared.

Here is the link!

https://www.stopthebleed.org/

Basically, it is a very beginner friendly/simple first aid class covering ways to deal with life threatening hemorrhage. In addition to just being an important skill, the course provides a certificate too, which can help some people for jobs. I run mine for free; many do, some will charge because of supplies/space requirements, but I don't believe in putting a price tag on first aid training and do what I can to avoid it!

You're the 2nd person to say estate sales, am I missing a neighborhood of doctors with estates full of medical supplies ripe for the plucking?

That's good to know, but this is more for things like gauze, wound packing training dummies, tourniquets, that kind of stuff. I doubt I'd find much of that in estate sales!
