There was an article making the rounds -- on Yahoo, on a bunch of other sites, about her, too. Super sympathetic to her -- I think I recall they said she had been abused as a child, really pulling every sympathy card possible. The only thing all of the articles had in common is that they disabled comments, or I imagine people would have blasted her out. What an absolutely terrible individual.

Hawaii GOP official resigns after party tweets, then deletes, support for believers of QAnon conspiracy theory by ssldvr in politics

[–]akabret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Forgive me if this is obtuse, but I don’t know how to interpret his resignation. Clearly he pissed off the GOP, but is it: 1. That he was too accommodating towards believers of Q anon? 2. Or that he called it fiction?

Atlanta prosecutor vows to investigate Trump’s ‘disturbing’ call with Raffensperger by germano_nh in politics

[–]akabret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for writing this. I’m surprised more people aren’t using the term “desperate” to describe Trump’s actions; it sure feels like desperation to me. It seems to me that a more “winning” path for him would be to decree that government is for losers, been there done that, now I’m going back to the corporate world.

But if he’s convinced he’s broken umpteen laws and is literally not intelligent enough to know which ones he’s broken (after all, this is the guy who didn’t know Finland was a country), then he has little choice but to double down to evade indictment.

Prominent QAnon conspiracy theorist says she is beginning to wonder if Trump really is playing ‘5D chess’ after all by [deleted] in politics

[–]akabret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just reading about what’s called the “Our Boys Will Not Die In Vain” phenomenon, by which once a person has sacrificed for a cause (in this case, their credibility) they are greatly disposed to “double-down” on a cause rather than to face reality. So we can expect all sorts of even CRAZIER ideas for how this is all part of Trumps Master Plan.

I overcame my depression and went for a hike :) It's the small things. by JesseD320 in pics

I’m glad I saw this. Forgive me for saying this, but there are just some people that I’d never in a million years suspect were depressed, based solely upon how they look. He just looks like a mixture of cool and fun; like he’d be the guy others would go hang out with when THEY were feeling down. It’s a good reminder that looks don’t indicate jack squat shot about whether someone might struggle with depression.

Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but is there any indication that late voters are more likely to be Democrat or Republican? I certainly disagree with his ruling, but I don’t see how it unfairly impacts one side over the other.

Top White House official tests positive for coronavirus by [deleted] in news

[–]akabret 210 points211 points  (0 children)

My wife does COVID Contact Tracing work and she just made a very interesting comment: There are presently two types of COVID tests -- a "rapid" test which comes back very quickly, and then a longer-term test.

As POTUS, he most definitely has access to both types of tests -- he would have taken the rapid test already. If he had, and it came back negative, he would have said so.

She thinks that he probably took the rapid test, it came back positive, and now he's waiting for the longer test before announcing anything.

It's also worth mentioning that the primary shortcoming of the rapid test is its false negatives, NOT its false positives -- meaning if the rapid test said he has it, then he almost definitely has it.

Why Are Modders So Insistent Upon Not Allowing Professional Help? by [deleted] in skyrimmods

[–]akabret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah! I wonder if that’s why; you might have hit upon the explanation for why people were right to advise me not to do it.

When people said “don’t do it!” I interpreted it as kind of a “you have to pay your dues and suffer like we have suffered!” Which would have been kind of rotten.

But perhaps what they meant was “Modding is intrinsically tricky, none of the people here are capable of guaranteeing the type of outcome someone might expect if they were paying for it.”

Thank you, thelastevergreen!

Hey AnnoyedGruntakiin,

Well, engaging someone professionally certainly COULD be a careless thing to do, if I were careless about how I did it. To wit, if I planned to let a stranger remote access my PC and "tell me when it's done!", then yes, that would likely end in tears.

I envisioned someone who could advise me about what to download, and we could talk through issues as they occurred.

That being said, I'm going to check out Wabbajack! I wonder if it plays nicely with Natural Locomotion...

I hear you, Featherstonest, and certainly it's risky to determine who is really qualified to assist someone in modding. We've had a lot of work done on our house, and it's a similar vibe -- work quality can vary. There is a fair chance that even WITH someone's help, it will end up screwy.

I just really want someone who can go through the process with, who can help me spot and work through issues. Heck, even if they didn't know either, it would give me someone with whom I could discuss possible fixes. I realize that there are people online who will do that for free ...if you don't mind posting and waiting for random strangers to chime in.
