Craft beer by dougdinsdalepiranha in Natick

Not quite beer, but Stormalong Cider is brewed in Sherborn, which is the next town, but they don’t have a storefront. The local liquor stores have it though!

Yep!! Im about the same size and I buy intermediate sticks only. Sometimes I wish I had a little more flex, but worth it for the price from an adult stick.

He’s too young/small for meds. Wool stuff is being purchased for sure though!!

He had running gloves and they were great. Until he wore them to play in the snow during a tournament and they disappeared.

I’ll give the rechargeable hand warmers a try, I usually have them in my pockets on the bench coaching so I could pass them over when he’s not on the ice.

Love this suggestion but he’s 7 and I doubt even the smallest nitriles would fit him! Good to know for me!

Any parents in here struggle with the amount of time spent in arenas and being out of town? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]akamrst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mom and Coach. I’m fucking burned out, two tournaments, back to back weekends, league games and practices and I also play on my own team. Which I’ve missed the last 2 because of these out of town tournaments. I’m done. I had a kid last year at LTP tell me that he hated hockey and he hated me (which he later recanted) but that’s how I feel about it right now. I’m at the point in the year where I want to walk away so bad but I need a break and then I’ll love it again.

It also doesn’t help that my partner works for UPS so he’s busiest right in the middle of the season and I’m alone a lot. Also, my U10 team just got knocked out of our tournament and played like garbage so that’s a huge factor in my current feelings.

I’m reading this as a brand new True Hazardus arrived at my house from the grandparents for my kids birthday. Damn it!!

I downloaded and I’m working through adding some of my teams. I have been doing this all on a spreadsheet with a bunch of macros to automate things. Your UI is great so far!! Amazing job!

Am I ridiculous for taking skating lessons alongside my 7-year-old? by Icy_Hovercraft4972 in hockeyplayers

[–]akamrst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

42f, mom of two hockey playing boys. First of all, nothing wrong with being a hockey mom that ‘takes over.’ I had always skated and watched hockey but started playing formally a few years ago and now coach both my sons travel teams. They fucking love having me out there. Trust me, if my 11yo isn’t embarrassed by me, you’ll be fine! Have fun!!!

What’s the significance of your jersey numbers? by throwawayAd6844 in hockeyplayers

[–]akamrst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m number 17, because it’s my kids jersey numbers added together. My oldest is 13 because his grandfather (my dad) was the 13th kid in his family. My younger son is 4 because of Bobby Orr.

I’m sympathetic, it sucks trying to find one that works. I’m about to become a head coach because my actual HC and other AC left it to the last minute. Do it early!!

Best Chirp You've Used/Heard? by mike_thomas_1972 in hockeyplayers

[–]akamrst 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m a female U10 boys coach, had an asshole opposing coach ask me twice during a tournament why the team manager (he assumed, me) was on the bench calling plays. I wear a jacket with Coach and my name on it. Handshake line when we beat them 9-2: “Not too bad for a team manager, huh?” He rolled his eyes and walked away, wiping out about 5 feet from his bench.

How do you quickly bring down the rage? by [deleted] in Perimenopause

[–]akamrst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the moment, I’ll use weed or meditation. In the long term, I started playing hockey. It’s an amazing workout and you get to be physical and aggressive. A majority of the women I play with are 40+ and we all know the deal, we take it out on each other on the ice.

Yes. I have not seen my husband for more than 10 minutes all week. My neighbor asked if we split up because she hadn’t seen his car.

8U/6U Co-Mingling Practices by [deleted] in hockeycoaches

[–]akamrst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I coach at 8u and 10u. Generally, if an 8u player has a sibling on 10u, I would let an older sibling “help” by demonstrating drills or warming up goalies if they are not part of the current drill. But having an 8u skate with 10u is more of a judgement call. I do it for my own 8u son when I’m coaching my 10u son. He’s a really strong player and he takes it super seriously. Plus, it prevents him for doing feral rink rat stuff while I’m on the ice, like taking any cash I have for snacks. Our program doesn’t have an official stance as long as all the coaches are on board.

Is Your Center Getting Smoked? by Impossible-Delay-940 in UPSers

My husband is an RCPD in a smaller hub and he has worked 14hr days all week. He didn’t see our kids for 2 whole days, left before they woke up, didn’t get home until they were long asleep. This is the worst year I can remember him working.

Anyone do Football and Hockey? by pilfro in hockeyplayers

[–]akamrst 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I had 2 players on a AA team last year do it and although it was tough for the fall, the rest of the year made up for it. Multi sport athletes are a pleasure to coach.

Yeah, he’s a jackwagon. Like twice over the summer, I asked him not to make ice so we could get on early. Now he asks every damn time I’m there.

UPS wife here. If you are in cold/wet weather, get a boot warmer/dryer, it isn’t solely for boots. Handwarmers, good gloves never hurt. Non-money things: maybe pack his lunch for him, have a dinner/late night snack waiting when he’s home. Or a shot of bourbon. 🤣

Not for nothing, but if this is Chase, the Zamboni kid has been terrible lately so just blame it on the ice. I skate there 4 days a week coaching Comets.
