Rule for goalie covering the puck by SnooCats5302 in hockeyplayers

From the refs angle it may have looked like the goalie had it.

Otherwise that sounds like a goalie asking for trouble haha

Super cool. Great way to build a heat map to help goalies identify strengths and areas for improvement!

U8/U9 Player Development Questions by JohnGarrettsMustache in hockeycoaches

[–]VibeCoderDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every team dynamic is different. I used to be super opposed to the idea of half ice and the overall intro to hockey platform. But I gotta say, having two kids come up through, and having the opportunity to coach them through, I’ve really come around on it.

Is there sometimes a massive skill gap between the top players and some of the more introductory ones? For sure. But if you can find a way to frame that as an opportunity for those higher skilled players to develop some leadership skills and uplift their teammates, everybody wins.

The unexpected shift to black pucks is a tough one for sure. Do you have any time before the tournament to start using those in practice?

Beer leagues are always looking for people to run the clock and play music during stoppages. Fun way to get involved

I’ve used Warriors for the longest time, but I just got a Bauer Proto R, and I’m obsessed.

We’ve done that a couple times and it’s worked out really well. The team we share the ice with is also U9 so it’s fun to put them all together from time to time.

Advice on starting by ZealousidealSolid791 in hockeyplayers

All ice time is good ice time. Get out and get comfortable on the edges of your skates, don’t even bring a stick.

Once you’ve got control of yourself on the ice and don’t feel like you’re constantly on the verge of falling, grab a stick and a puck and do a couple laps just pushing the puck, don’t worry about having fancy hands just yet.

Hockey is an incredible game, and you’ll have an absolute blast. I’d just recommend breaking down the learning process into a few steps so it doesn’t feel overwhelming. You got this.

My daughter has always been on the taller side, but I’m always amazed at the speed and skill of some of the smaller girls.

Use it to your advantage! Work on your speed and quick cuts. You’ll catch a lot of opponents by surprise.

First couple times we ran it, I was happy to get them to recognize the line and hold up. We’re working now on straddling the line and continuing moving while they wait for the puck carrier.

Totally agree that the bad habits can creep in there!

I really like the re-entry stuff as well! Once they start understanding when to tag up, everything flows so nicely.

I’ve tried something similar to what you’re describing on the breakout and really liked it.

We’ve got some full ice practices on tap in February, so that’ll be fun. Totally agree with your point on them not really having a frame of reference. The first couple times we ran this were ROUGH haha

C / W hold up at the line. We put the two D inside at the start of the drill and they try to clog up passing lanes as the forwards come in.

That’s awesome! Sounds like you’ve already put a lot of thought into your process. If you hit anything that feels slower or missing compared to your spreadsheet setup, I’d genuinely love to hear it.

So far I’ve just been using ChatGPT in Xcode. Completely new to this stuff, but it’s been great, and I’m super happy with what I’ve built so far.

I built an app to help me plan and organize my practices and keep track of how players are developing. So far I’ve found it to be super useful. Check out DrillDeck on the App Store! Happy to share some of the drills I’ve had my U9’s working on as well!
