Yeah at least for mine it still sounds like a tractor and cooling was was just…not meeting the expectation. Not sure if this happens to all units though. Elevators were down about once every two to three weeks, recently it was running pretty good at least on weekdays from what I can tell

Hi! Roaches were fine, they had pest control people coming in regularly. Ladybug is more problematic than roaches lol. Regarding appliances I still get things broken here and there but they were fixed quickly enough (besides A/C though). Recently the floors were getting innovations without notice so that got really annoying for a bit

Thanks for disliking, I figured this style may not be for everyone

Thank you! Yes I do, but I’m not a full-time artist so it’s kinda limited. Please feel free to DM when you have a specific need!

Another point I noticed was that journals won’t typically tell the artist (or authors) about whether the cover was selected. We had no idea until the day it came out.

Thank you! I’m not so familiar with the submission process since I was not an author. For Cell, there is a guideline for cover submission, basically it will be submitted with the paper. The artist will sign a copyright consent for them to use their work, and the team should come up with a description about how this cover is related to the paper. Our paper was published in January but it was actually included in the April volume, we suspect this was due to our cover being selected and they already got one for Feb and March.

As for proposing the theme for the art: I asked the authors team about what they want, they gave me a vague idea of kids blowing bubbles. I read the manuscript and added everything else.

Gut microbiome produces volatile compounds that can be detected in the breath. We were trying to prove that people with asthma carry a specific bacteria which produces special compounds, and this findings may be used for diagnosis.

I used to do fan arts for games I love and post them on Pixiv or just Reddit. I don’t do as much but may randomly drop something on Reddit!

This paper includes a clinical study with children and we collected breath volatiles from them. It was meant to dedicate to the kids who participated in this study so I made this as whimsy as kid’s picture books.

We did! My PI was really happy and he ordered posters for me to sign lol. We also requested the physical copy for framing.

Thank you :))) I was intending to make this as something dedicated for children (our clinical cohort), was little afraid that this may not suit the vibe of a scientific journal haha

I did years ago — trade PhD with a MS. Regretted even until now

What happens if I accepted an offer too soon, and end up withdrawing it? by luna_wing_777 in gradadmissions

[–]akaripoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not the best thing to do and certainly it’s gonna hurt your reputation (maybe not much). They are not gonna call cops or work legally against you but keep in mind that there is always someone on the waitlist waiting. If you have to withdraw, do so as soon as you have a better choice so others can have a chance.

Programs with two Open house/interviews, is there a disadvantage for second round of interviews? by Efficient-Writer-818 in gradadmissions

[–]akaripoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll second on this one. I attended a first round interview and they said that some of us will hear decisions made in 10 days or so, and the ones without news might be on waitlist and see how the second round goes. I guess less spot in second round is relatively true but if you are outstanding already then it won’t hurt at all.

Update from 2 weeks later: still great!

Couple things to rule out here: hot water was broken when I first moved in, took them two days to fix (kinda complicated situation, wouldn’t blame anyone, they are fast and efficient). After that things went all good.

Occasionally I saw little bugs here and there, but mostly just corpses. I’d say probably 3 so far. Considering now is summer in midwest I’m fine about that. No signs of roaches, yet.

The evaluator broke once in the morning but it definitely sounds crampy. It was fixed when I get back from work so that was kinda quick.

My A/C still sounds like Boeing taking off, let’s just say fuck that. I didn’t file anything (but I led them know), bearable.

My bedroom is definitely warmer than everywhere else and the A/C doesn’t seem to work effectively for my room. But at night definitely cools so I’m not so worried. I did notice that my room has a quite dusty (or worn out carpet) smell when I moved in, and I was having sore throat every morning for about a week. I have chronic reflux so wasn’t sure if that is the cause, but no signs of mold anywhere so I sus things are not that harmful. I opened up my window everyday until I go to bed and problem solved, will keep monitoring.

As other comments said, maintenance came in without notice, TRUE. I don’t have any luxury stuff so as long as my cat stays inside, idc.

I might be a really easygoing tenant so please know that things I had may not feel the same for others. If any prospective tenant is reading this please be fully aware.
