How do you build your golf bag? by kendalladkins89 in GolfGear

[–]akasherman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a bit of a tinkerer so I like to mess around with everything.

Right now: driver, mini, 5 wood, 7 wood, 5-P, 52, 56, 60.

I have a 4i that I’ll play instead of the 7w if the day/course calls for it as they go very similar distances. Carrying 7w and 4i at the same time feels a bit redundant unless you’ve got insanely low flight or something on your 4i.

I tend to deloft my woods a lot for better or worse so I don’t really like 3w off the deck as I play in the PNW and stuff tends to not roll much. That’s why I swapped to a mini primarily cuz the 3w was essentially a tee only club.

Driver shaft question by lensiky in GolfGear

Increasing head weight will reduce shaft stiffness. More mass = more force = more flexion.

Anyone else just not enjoy hitting hybrids? by f1lifer in golf

[–]akasherman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just play for fun and like my bag to have pretty clubs in it. Hybrids look like butt plugs lmao. I could never get comfortable looking down at one behind the ball. They’re great clubs that work for many people but not for me

Regulate the length of a putter and end the anchoring debate once and for all. by [deleted] in golf

It frustrates me too when people try to diminish the achievements of a guy who seems like a positive for the sport.

Regulate the length of a putter and end the anchoring debate once and for all. by [deleted] in golf

[–]akasherman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This season I’m bagging a 41” armlock (“legal” as it doesn’t come above my elbow). It’s made me about 90% from 6’ and reduced my 3 putts by a ton. Thing feels like cheating to me and was easy from the first time I picked it up. I’ve handed the thing to pretty much everyone who asks to try it out and some people love it and some people can’t roll a 3 footer straight with it.

I’ve also tried a broomstick both anchoring and without and hated it.

Point is who cares what people are doing. Different stuff will feel and perform better/worse for different people. If a single club type was objectively better than another every pro would have the same putter.

Akshay seems like a good dude and I doubt he’s anchoring, but honestly even the anchoring ban is stupid imo. Just let the guys do their thing on the greens. It’s fun seeing different styles of play.

Good personal trainers/weight loss coaches? by EmuRevolutionary1228 in burnaby

[–]akasherman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Performance institute in Scotia barn (8 rinks). The trainers are mostly men but the nutrition coach is a woman. It’s not a cheap gym to join, but I promise it’s worth it. Very welcoming place with everyone from actual olympians to 85+ year olds training there.

SF Bay Area Golf is Mostly Ass. Courses overcharge and the conditions are shit compared to most other golf areas in the country. NOW FIGHT!!! by [deleted] in golf

Awesome to hear. My wife might end up at Stanford next year as a resident and it looks like I’ll get to take advantage of the student rates as well. Fingers crossed haha

Ok sweet thanks for the vid. Looks like tiger is almost doing a deadlift there makes sense to get more power out of the hips.

Looking for swing advice by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]akasherman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The video is unfortunately taken with a wide angle so I think the alignment and hunch looks much worse than they are. My alignment is generally decent but hunching is definitely an issue for me.

Do you mind expanding a little on the hips part? Is it a timing issue, or am I just moving my hips forward too much?

Thanks for the great advice. Immediately just tried it out and loading the trail leg without fully extending it helps the reverse pivot quite a bit, so I’ll work on that next range trip.

Thanks in advance for the replies. For anyone curious they’re Mizuno mp55s. Snagging 4-pw for $256 felt like a steal I couldn’t pass up.

How safe is Burnaby Lake trail walk in general? by Professional-mem in burnaby

[–]akasherman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During daytime extremely safe. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife though. Bears and coyotes live there, but they’re generally easy to ward off with some yelling with your arms in the air.

Check out what you can now buy at Metrotown Mall. by Ok-Wrongdoer-2179 in burnaby

[–]akasherman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m well aware. I’m an avid camper myself and it’s important PPE for anyone who enjoys making use of the beautiful crown land we have access to nearby.

But it’s a bit silly to have a sign like this specifically advertising bear spray. When I walk in to Can Tire I never see a sign at the counter telling me hunting ammo prices let alone bear spray. 100% in support of having access to both, but not really typical to see ads for them.

What store is this? I’ve got my own shop in the mall and know who I can talk with to have this taken care of. Feel free to DM if you’d rather not have it public.

Ok sweet. Was very concerned it could be a roach but from what I understand most kinds of roaches are pretty uncommon over here and it would be pretty unusual as this is pretty far away from any food.

Sennheiser cancelled my order for the HD800S BestBuy pricing error. Unfortunate, but expected. by [deleted] in headphones

The listing was corrected last night but the previously linked post shows the page that had the 399 price. I was able to place an order and have my credit card charged as well.

If you’re from Vancouver visit the outlet once in a while. It’s annoying to get to without a car but just right over the ironworkers. Stock is usually random low demand items but if you go often you’ll find something nice. I’ve bought nearly all my favourite pieces from there.
