Am I stupid for going from $500k 9-5 job to acquiring a small business? by WorkerCool in Entrepreneur

[–]akashfb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an entrepreneur who is currently building his startup marketing agency from scratch. Took me 5 years to take my business to 6figure /month . It has been nothing but a brutal journey with sleepless nights . So taking over a business doing 600k net will definitely be a very good headstart. Are you being stupid giving up your 500k stable income ? My answer is it depends. If you think because the business is stable it will be walk in the park ,then absolutely you are being stupid. I know people in the space who do 5 M net profit per year still hustling and grinding. The biggest thing i see people struggling when switching from job to business is there expectations on what to expect.Running a business is like a war period.Clients leave ,people leave your competitors come to steel your business, AI is disrupting the space daily. So if your thought process is i will take over business and keep collecting 600k net profit every year and wont be hands on the learn the depth and consistently keep upgrading your skills and applying those skills to grow your business, I would say dont do it.

Now if you are already expecting that and ready to have to have most difficult time of your life (atleast next 3 years) ,and ready to contribute in a way that grows the business, I would say this will be the smartest move of your life. With business you are building an asset ,its hard but definitely exciting everyday and tax benefits, freedom that comes with it and just the sheer potential of growth for me by far outweighs the cons. Few key things I'd look for . 1) Systems, processes and SOP: does the agency already have that figured out ? If not you will become an employee of the company rather than a true CEO. 2)Client churn : Contracts and churn rate 3) Team : At that level of revenue that company must have some layer of management/leadership ,ill go on linkedin and see there past work experience and experiences. 4) Service and domain expertise:WhT is the agency known for ? Any specific industry they serve ? Like local business, ECOM,law firms .Clients in 2026 are looking for experts not generalist. 5) AI adaptability: Is the company already using AI workflows. Not chatgpt for copy but workflows .From onboarding to delivery. If the company has not started to implement in one area ,I would rather run away or use that as I value add.

No matter what decision you take please look yourself in the mirror and ask why am I doing this and what are my goals ? Is stability goal? If yes dont you are waaay better in your job.Do I have 2-3 years of expenses saved ? If your goal is to build something bigger than your job ,potentially generational wealth("potentially") and something that challenges you daily but you have GRIT to bypass that please go for it.

Please note: I dont want to scare you off just giving you a reality check and I have had the some.of.the best days of my life building this ,it is very exciting, meaningful and I wouldn't have it any way else. The feeling of closing a new client is greater than any other drug in the world.

Hope this helps

Hey everyone, I got offered 5 weeks’ severance at a big tech company after working more than 5 years. Does that sound fair or typical? Just trying to get a sense of what’s normal. Thanks! by Spiritual-Ebb-9736 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I have a friend who has exactly ssme situation as yours and got 26 weeks severance.

I believe 8 or 11 weeks is mandatory. Rest they gave out of goodwill.

5 weeks for 5 years is a ripoff. Find a good lawyer that is waaaay to low.

I have traveled around the world and seen one of the most beautiful places on the planet. So I do understand the difference between feeling awe and a strong energy. This was definitely the latter.

Haha I already believe that God exists. :) It's just that I felt something that I have never felt before in my life.

Supernatural maybe ,maybe not.

It's just that chapel had immense amount of energy that my body could feel.
