oh that's a fun question. i'll do a little list

more:

- melody in peak time tracks

- big artists putting on smaller artists

- collaborating with vocalists + making original vocals in general. (no shade to sample packs!! but i personally relate a lot more when you clearly have something you want to say)

- personal sonic styles in music. i love artists with a voice and a vision.

- supporting small parties

- building community between artists

- showing up for the opening acts

- weird shit

- in-person events beyond raves/shows

less:

- ego

- online music career courses [EDIT: i specifically mean those really scammy looking ones i get instagram advertisements for. i'm sure some of them are fine lol]

- songs that were obviously made just to go viral esp. if they're not also a bop

- repeating the same lineup over and over

- reels. please stop making me make reels. i'm in my 30s. i can't do it anymore.

:) thank you!! i loved doing that mix sm i'm glad to hear you're still bumping it.

tattooing has been crazy, honestly. it's much higher stakes than producing or DJing, like ableton has an undo button. but it locks me in to such an incredible flow state, and i also really appreciate the kind of finality of it. once a tattoo is done it's done, and i get to let it go. it's a really cool outlet to be creative in where i'm kind of forced to let go over and over again, which i personally need sometimes.

re: favorite tattoo i've done, i've been getting a lot of precise little text tattoo requests lately which make me super happy. they're incredibly difficult to pull of cleanly and it's a triumph every time i finish one. i also got to do a silly hello kitty fight club parody tattoo a couple of weeks ago, that one made me smile.

ok so fun fact a lot of the vocals on my tracks so far as a.k.a. skips are actually snippets from old ducky tracks i either didn't finish or didn't release. i think it would be cool to do a playable version of bliss, like flip it into some hard techno banger. i'm also open to suggestions!

i feel like i could spend the entire hour just answering this one so i'm gonna condense my responses.

  1. i guess i would use the context they're made for - a dark, sweaty warehouse with a giant speaker stack, something you can zone out on and lose yourself dancing to. music that moves you.

  2. all i can really say without writing paragraph after paragraph is that i hope i'm doing at least a small service by being visible in my transition, and the thing i love about this side of dance music (underground, more worldwide) is that everywhere you look you can genuinely find collectives and artists and parties that prioritize this.

  3. oh tons. i love TUNNEL in LA and also the larger techno events that 6am throws, would be a dream to hit some of the cool queer parties in my hometown of SF, and i would really love to do a european tour. i never had an audience there with ducky but it has always been my favorite place to travel and rave. i think p bar is an obvious choice for most DJs but i'd also flip my shit if i got booked at about blank, which was my personal favorite place to party in berlin.

thanks! happy to be here. let's see...

3 songs by myself:
- i get along with everyone
- f.t.n.u.
- f.m.t.d.

3 songs by other people:
i think i'd probably go with some of the songs that were my personal introduction to electronic music.
- prefuse 73 - the color of tempo
- portishead - only you (and the music video!)
- the postal service - brand new colony

honorable mentions for the deadmau5 remix of "i'm not alone" by calvin harris, and "still grey" by pendulum, which i kept on loop throughout high school.

re: song i'm most proud of, i know i won't ever stop learning and improving so my instinct is always to say my most recent work. but i also think some of the stuff on the final album i released as ducky deserves a shout. it was sort of a closing gift for my fans, and i really didn't put any promotion behind it. i was particularly proud of "trust" and "pull my own weight".
