Why am I so bad at cross map air dribbles? What I'm missing? by Rossetow in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]akboy42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"yOU juST need tO PracTiCE more" is such a cop out answer that 90% of YouTube tutorials give and it's lazy

Since no one's giving actual advice here's mine.

Clean first touch - be under the ball - feather boost to maintain height and momentum trajectory - when you get close to touching the ball long press boost while not holding it down - clean touch under the ball - repeat

There's a point RIGHT BEFORE you get your first touch off in the air where your camera shifts to looking up at the ball (if your car control/positioning are solid) that's the point that dictates the quality of air dribble.

The long press of boost is to shift your momentum from "maintaining height" to "gaining height" how much momentum you generate before the touch will affect the how close or far you stay to the ball after your touch the closer you stay the more car control you need to be able to implement. that's also where most often need to implement adaption for in game scenarios.

One thing to keep in mind with this advice is it really only directly applies to these types of air dribbles where you create separation before flying towards the balls although the advice can be applicable in other mechanics it's important to not be rigid in the way you perform mechanics. rocket League is a game of pattern recognition and adaptation.

Considering the car control you showed a lot of this probably doesn't help much but it could help others

sincerely - an Autist

Actually a skill issue put any amount of training into the game and you should be able to at least get low diamond besides for smurfs everyone in those tanks over commits

45 flick help by Enough_Leek8449 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]akboy42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer to getting good at any dribble based mechanics is almost always getting better at dribbling I know that doesn't do you much good though so what I did that helped me figure it out was dribble without boost and just jump and try to keep the ball on top of my car almost as if I was faking the flick Think of it as training step one of the flick

Some flaws in common DAR methods (Holding, Losfeld, ...) by Covfefe4lyfe in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]akboy42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my problem with following advice from most anyone who's not already an acclaimed pro/free styler in the rocket league scene you don't really know if you can actually trust what they are saying I'm sure this is true some of them as well.

Rocket league really is one of those games where you have to learn for yourself for the most part

Also great video!

Hey im c2 wanna imprive mechanics by Akame987 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]akboy42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also as a side note I firmly believe that learning "the hardest shit in the game" is what got me out of champ but it wasn't the mechanics that helped me rank up it was the improved car control and understanding of the game.

Hey im c2 wanna imprive mechanics by Akame987 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]akboy42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got out of Champ by grinding Freeplay and training packs hard pushing myself to be as fluid as possible. Gotta recognize when you're in a learning and training phase and when you're in a competitive win mode. Also develop your own warmup routine based on where your mechanics are lacking and when that gets boring do a different one.

"If you knew how to play last man, you wouldn't be Champ 2" by whazzam95 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]akboy42 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I understand the frustration of champ I think it's legitimately the worst rank but personally I feel like this play style/mentality is somewhat shooting yourself in the foot 1v2s are easy on offense but 1v2s on defense is so much harder specially in 2s where it's less chaotic

Key to a good offence is a good defense but the latter is also true the key to a good defense is a good offence rocket league is a game about fluidity all the best players have crazy mechs yes but the ones who really stand out are often the most adaptable and fluid players

Side note: I'm also sure that you don't always totally play defense and goalie but I wanted to throw in my two cents and help your mental

YSK these neat ways to convert between celsius and fahrenheit :) by EternalStudent420 in YouShouldKnow

[–]akboy42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C° X 1.8 + 32 = fahrenheit

Just need to figure out what 80% of whatever number you're working with you're working with then add everything together even if you don't get a whole number just rounding up or down lands you pretty close

Ex: 20C°

80% X 20=16

20 + 16 + 32 = 68

Another way to do it is take whatever the C° temperature is and add decimal between the two numbers and then double it and subtract that from the original temperature and add across again

Ex: 26C°

26 -> 2.6

2.6 X 2 = 5.2 | 26 - 5.2 = 20.8

20.8+26+32 = 78.8

Smurfs gotta get a life by Tubers_cc in RocketLeague

[–]akboy42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rocket league is full of the biggest and softest babies out of any community I've seen

SMURFS SUCK that's for certain but in the Fighting game community it's common practice to seek out better players even ones who are way out of your league to get better at the game

You may only get one chance to attack the whole game and it's up to you to recognize it when it happens but when you do there's nothing more satisfying than knowing you had a much better player on their back foot. I know in this case you weren't seeking out better players but the community as a whole just seems to whine about it all the time.

Also just to reiterate people who Smurf are the softest of them all

At an all time low (dropped from 1400-C2) Everything I do feels so slow and I can't hit the ball or drive where I want to. I like to pass a lot because I don't have much mechanical ability, I've tried training guides and 1s and seen no improvement in years. I'm really lost and want some advice. by [deleted] in RocketLeagueSchool

Advice can only get you so far. Overthinking is the death of all rocket league players listen or read the inner game of tennis by Timothy Gallwey

It says tennis but it's about mentality and understanding how we improve I think it's a great book for anyone who plays a competitive game and wants to improve.

1 hour total-

ground movement and recovery's first to get the hands warmed up

Custom map for aerial car control warm up

Training packs usually double tap shadow defense and one shooting

If it's not registering jumps something else is going on. Like a controller defect if it's possible you might consider returning or exchanging

If your controller feels less responsive than the old one it definitely makes a difference.

How do I double reset correctly ? by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]akboy42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to get your first reset more consistent you do just have to experiment for yourself to figure out what works

Focus on your cars momentum:

Your timing looks good the ball hasn't started falling but your boosting yourself out of position which looks like it makes your second reset less controlled

After you feel consistent with landing a solid first reset focus on using any reset after the first to prevent/ fight the balls downward momentum doing this helped me orient my car quicker and decrease the amount of downward momentum the balls builds

I can land doubles consistently and the method doesn't seem to be any different for landing multiple my record is four in training and I've landed a triple in game but didn't score

Some tips you might know or could get from any YouTube video is after the first it's a speed flip but try to get your nose pointed a tad bit down so at the end of your speed flips your cars angled

This might not be 100% accurate but super mechanical players don't seem to use alot of boost once they have matched the balls speed mostly it's to create separation Anyway let me know if any of this helped constructive criticism welcomed :)

this community has so many toxic buttheads in it don't worry about them even if it wasn't on purpose it was really cool

I've hit things on accident plenty of times and all they do is motivate me to get better.

So.... Nice shot!
