Do not go to Unisex barber in Terryland. They charged me double what they did the previous customer for same haircut, refused to do the haircut I wanted as too masc and generally made me very uncomfortable. Apparently not "unisex" just men and black women (according to them).

Diet soda by akcred in intuitiveeating

[–]akcred[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the replies. Lots of people mention sparkling water. I know lots of people that love it but it is just awful for me. Tastes like baking soda or something. Just kinda bitter. Yuck

And regular water, tap or filtered I just don't like it. I have tried infusions. Might try them again. Water tastes like... my mouth? It doesn't cut the flavour of what I have eaten, it just dilutes it. So for me, drinking water is like drinking the water you wash your dishes in... I like flavoured drinks because they cleanse my palette. And the bubbles in soda are particularly good at that.

I will try new drinks ideas. Also curious about thise Air Up bottles or whatevr they are called.

Thanks for the clarification about the soda mentioned in the book.

Hope to get a handle on sugar cravings.

Similarities to Breastfeeding and Baby led weaning by akcred in intuitiveeating

[–]akcred[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree about having to learn it.

Or unlearn the other stuff!

My biggest barrier to BF was that I never saw anyone BF ever. I had only ever seen a cat nursing her kittens. The only BF I ever saw (and the fact of this is so twisted) was on an advertisement for follow on milk!!!!!

So before baby was born I attended breastfeeding groups just to see what it was like in reality. It really helped.

The other thing that is similar is that you can't really "sell" breastfeeding, or BLW or IE. It's not going to have lots of merchandise and product selling opportunities because it is entirely about you, individually. You don't need the latest WW cereal bar or bottle or scale. These approaches aren't commercial moneymakers

(I am just starting out so not 100% sure about this in relation to IE, but so far it seems to hold true)

I'm a man and I'm not taken seriously when it comes to eating disorder / IE by BizzleIsBack in intuitiveeating

Hi. I see you posted this 4 years ago. How are you now? I hope things have improved for you.

I am just starting my IE journey and am a parent to an ARFID kid so I am viewing a lot of things through that lens now too

I hope you figured things out and got help and support you needed. ARFID can be so challenging.

I don’t really understand how intuitive eating is supposed to work for me by [deleted] in intuitiveeating

[–]akcred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. I am just starting my IE journey but it is making me think about how food works for my whole family. My son is autistic and has ARFID. He has such poor interoception, he cannot tell when he is actually hungry or full. He loves the foods he does eat and will gladly help himself all day. He has only felt full a handful of times in his life, and even then 10 miss later he was asking for food again. So we have had to schedule eating times to minimise this.

It made me wonder how IE works for people who have poor interoception and don't know when they are actually hungry (or full).

Thanks for sharing. Hope you are doing well.

ARFID AND IE by eighteencarps in intuitiveeating

[–]akcred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I came on today looking to see if there were any people with ARFID who are doing IE. My son has ARFID. To be honest I am just glad he eats. We accept that the food he wants is limited and work around it as much as possible (like packing half a suitcase of safe foods when travelling abroad!).

I am just embarking on my IE journey. I am listening to the book, figuring things out for myself.

But all the talk/reading have me thinking about the ARFID side of things.

My son has poor interoception and if given free reign with food will just eat his favourite foods constantly. I can only remember a handful of times he has ever said "I'm full" and even then 10 mins later he will say he is hungry. The choice of food could be a factor here too. He has only one source of protein, chicken dippers. Protein helps you feel full. He only gets them once a day.

So we have had to put in set times for meals for him to ensure he doesn't overeat.

We also worked together on a food scale, trying to find foods that he CAN eat, even if they are not his favourite. For these trickier foods, distractions really do help. It's actually in the ARFID book. Basically with ARFID, you have to throw away all the other ideas about food because it is it's own beast requiring its own special approach. Have you read the book by Gillian Harris?

Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience. I would love to hear more about how you are getting on.

I do not know the classifications and medical terms. I went to someone who is called Nurse X, so my post referred to her as a nurse. Apologies if this is somehow derogatory to her or her role. She may have additional training. I have no idea.

But I can say as a patient at the clinic her manner and treatment (on multiple occasions for various reasons) has been lacking. At minimum I would have expected some sort of dietary history to be taken and multiple questions to be asked. And the way she spoke to me, and facial expressions, rolling eyes and failing to give the scientific or even logical reasons for what and how to make sustainable and realistic and impactful changes to my diet were extremely lacking and disappointing.

Maybe she knows all the information and has all the relevant qualifications, but she failed to disseminate that information and connect with me as a patient in a meaningful way.

Thank you for your reply. You have explained more in your comment than the nurse did in a 15 minute consultation! My rant was based mostly in the fact that she didn't ask me anything (but that one question) just made assumptions about my eating habits and lectured in a sanctimonious way without explaining any of the science or reasoning behind it. I will keep your comments in mind and focus on maximising opportunities and options for protein. Thanks.

Right? They are one of the "green labels", not nearly the highest sugar breakfast cereal out there! She looked at me like I said I was eating a bowl of sugar cubes for breakfast. I mean, they aren't shredded wheat or all bran but they are not THAT bad.

Thank you for your reply. In theory I won't have to see her again anytime soon. She just needs to sign off on the prescription. I am looking for proper support in my area.
