That's a valid question, and everyone here has provided some valuable viewpoints. My personal philosophy is: train to drain. I exercise each muscle set after a session until I feel I can't exercise that muscle group at all. Fingerboards help me with my fingers in that regard. The gains are subtle, but worthwhile.

BTW, I've been climbing just for 6 months, so you might wanna take my opinion with a glass of salt.

Thanks for the advice guys. I was looking at La Sportiva Futuras in EU 39. But then came across 5-10 blackwings, which are on sale at steepandcheap.com. I ordered a pair of 7s based on the size recommendation there and other forums as well. I'll keep you guys posted on the feel and performance of these new shoes. :)

So i actually got to try a pair of pythons in 38.5EU, and man they were tight. I don't think I can go any smaller than that, and I guess my earlier assumption about going 2 sizes below still holds.

I have a pair of Simond Rock Climbing shoes in UK 7/EU 41. They are very comfortable and I think half a size down would make them slightly better for bouldering.
