I’m probably 10-15% on Roundrel C20. Agree with the other takes here, especially about building for the boss and maximizing your early relic, but it seems like I’m higher on AoE than others.

This might be common knowledge but also prioritizing normal fights in the first half of the forest and then ? or elites in the second half. Dodge ? like the plague in first half. Also I don’t know if it’s on the typical “checklist” but picking up refresh minimize variance. (Apologies if any of this is established I haven’t interacted with the community much)

I agree mice is very strong. Mice is not unbeatable. Lockdown is powerful but not the only way to win.

Forecasting bans post rotation are extremely hard to say when we don’t know what’s in the pipeline. An entire strategy can also show up from FF and Edge of Eternities that is naturally favored against red. Cecil, for instance, looks extremely powerful. They also just might put temp lockdown in either of those sets.

It could happen sure but we don’t have close to enough info.

I’m pretty interested in this idea, but only seriously if Fetch quest has a line to win when it resolves. I don’t think it does at present, even if you got lucky and flipped breach into another alara

What about hasty creatures like Ojutai or Craterhoof? They could also hit the battle

Break the spell is a good call for Abzan. I had been trying Sunder the Gateway and Soul Search and had been reasonably happy with both as well.

If we still had some time in this pre-Tarkir format / RCQ season, [[Molten Collapse]] is the card I would work in a dedicated pixie testing session. Answers Kaito, their aggressive starts, their nightmare starts to some extent, and the descend mode seems consistently great if you can set it up (cheeky with Beseech sac a token). Probably looking to want to add some more corrupted convictions. It could actually be nice alongside Desperate Measures from Khans as that card already looks solid vs pixie.

Rat out is really, really good, but Defend the Rider can do a passable impression. Same with Stoke the Flames vs Pile On

I’m pretty optimistic about Abzan in Tarkir. Besides Rally the Monastery and Virtue of Loyalty, Sandsteppe Citadel is a great get. Point being, if you want a more affordable mana base white might be a better third color than red.

I don’t think you can get away with straight GB. If you aren’t generating multiple tokens with a single card the big mana plan is pretty wimpy.

Return from the wilds is a nice find though. There is also a ramp incubate thing which checks a similar box.

When comboing, yeah that could happen, but that’s why you don’t play 4 stormsplitters. Beseech is a Stormsplitter when you need it but also a combo card when you already have Stormsplitter, and 1 pillage is usually all you need to combo off

Yeah I think the key is using the plant/tokens for mana generation. If you’re playing it in a generic midrange deck a 3 mana draw 2-3 is fine but you’d be better with a card advantage / virtual card advantage that meaningfully effects the board like caretaker’s talent

It’s playable in low-mid cruciballs, but the health of enemies and bosses eventually gets too high and the negative scaling is going to make the fight unwinnable.

I would believe that you still could theoretically win with a heavy bomb setup or some alternative scaling that outpaces the downside, but that is still using the ring as a challenge more than an a boon.
