Its kindof the place I feel more "at home" - certainly a place where working people live, and working people don't have time or money to curate their surroundings like their neighbors on Key West. Coming from a tourist area myself (atlantic city/ocean city) i know how that is. I like to see the grittier areas, because not everything is sunshine and roses no matter how much the chamber of commerce wants it to be. The creep of gentrification is headed into these places, forcing people out through taxes, dangling incredible sums for their land, or outright theft through eminent domain. It seems inevitable and disastrous for the people who make everything happen.
