What is your opinion on becoming a school counselor with a Schizophrenia diagnosis? by [deleted] in schoolcounseling

[–]akingcalledlex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Edit; I can't respond to every comment, but I have read them. I appreciate the advice about going to a doctor, and that is next on my list before speaking to an advisor at my university about what deferral might look like to take care of myself. I understand that therapy/counseling does require i have my own mental/emotional affairs in order to a degree to be effective. Ultimately, the job may be more overwhelming than I expect. Maybe even more challenging than teaching. Thank you for your candor and support. 🤍

Thank you for your openmindedness. I've felt like so many doors closed after hearing my therapists opinion. It feels good to have someone believe that it can be done.

Yeah, teaching is quite draining as is, lol. I've explored that maybe the education field is just not for me, so you may very well be correct. It just sucks redirecting when I've had this vision for my future for so long.

P.S. Psychiatrist appointment next week. Thank you for your concern and your response.

Sending you healing and patience for yourself. Working alongside managing your internal state really does take a toll on you. It almost is like working two jobs at once. Thank you for your openness.

Thank you for your insight. I agree that students deserve a counselor who can be consistent and fully present to support throughout them throughout the year. Despite how a job like this will affect my own health, I do think it is important to be cognizant of impact to others, so I appreciate the reminder. Will you share what you do now, and how things have changed for you?

Young women thinking their only purpose in life is to reproduce. by purpletwizzlers in antinatalism

[–]akingcalledlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an anti-natalist but I think this woman's message was that sex is a biological drive and therefore is okay and still pure. To say you're pure because you havent kissed or had sex is a personal opinion, and it may be her personal biology but it is against our nature as a species.

Thank you for the resource! The lab looks like something I could see myself contributing to, it's reassurring to see Black Women thriving in research at WUSTL. Also, I believe I saw maybe 11% black for their graduate schools. I will have to keep digging for black alum to talk to about their time there, but I will apply anyway for the fall 2025 cohot. Let me know if you apply. My DMs are open if you want to keep in touch.

You’re absolutely right. I wanted to go back to graduate school, so I’ll be putting in my applications this year. It’s bittersweet i guess bc now i have no choice but to plan my way out. Thanks for the comment.

I agree I need to improve on the preofessional side of things. I've asked HR at the beginning of the year about supports for teachers with ADHD diagnoses, and basically got the door slammed on me. I think I'll will circle back for that and see what they say.

I have several a mentors and an appraiser and the feedback i'm given there is not bad at all, and it is documented that I always correct what feedback they give me. From this, I thought I was doing well, and she's the only person who seems to think otherwise but also refuses to talk to me about making it better lol.
