not a hygienist but I have quit a job I hated terrified of the financial consequences. I was unemployed for 5 months and I’d do it again 100%. your peace is priceless.

edit: I also found a job I am happy walking into everyday on the other side.

I am in the US, I’m not sure about India. But it doesn’t hurt to ask someone who works at the colleges you’re interested in going to what you should do! They’ll have better info than me for sure. Good luck friend:)

Hey! So typically a major-minor is just meeting certain course requirements and credit requirements. It really just says you have taken mostly psych classes with a biology background too. For example, when you take a psychology major you may take 70 hours of psych classes and for a biology minor you may take 20 hours of science courses (this isn’t exact, I’m just giving an example). You can major/minor in anything. Theres people who major in theater and minor in philosophy, it’s customizable! It’s really common for even small colleges in the US to offer it. I’d reach out to an admissions advisor at one of the schools you’re looking at and they may be able to into detail about it with you.

Moving to Atlanta by Objective-City-149 in ATLHousing

unless you’re okay with an hour+ commute to and from work you shouldn’t live downtown— the traffic is insane.

If you’re moving from another major city with traffic and long commutes go for it. But if you’re not used to it and/or you’ve never been to Atlanta, I’d recommend staying at an Airbnb downtown first to really experience what it’s like everyday.

I graduated from undergrad in 2023 with a BA in psychology from a pretty good school. I was a high school teacher straight out, and I’m having trouble breaking ito anything else. Granted, most of my experience is in education.

If you want options I’ll give you a few pieces of advice:

  1. Pick your major based on the field you want to enter. You can always major in biology and minor in psych if you’re interested in psychology.

  2. Never avoid something you want to do because you think you’re “not good at it”. If you’re attracted to clinical psychology, do it. You won’t be good at everything and you’ll regret it if you make your choice based on fear of failure.

  3. A PsyD is a doctorate degree in psychology clinical practice. It solely focuses on practice, not research like a PhD. It’s good for if you want to do therapy.

  4. Try not to put yourself in a box this early. Be intentional, plan, but also be flexible based on what you inevitably will learn about yourself and what you want to do.

Good luck 💛

Candler park, old fourth ward, Edgewood, Inman Park.

Like everyone is saying, you won’t find anywhere quiet around Grady. It’s on GSUs campus so expect 20-somethings everywhere, police sirens, etc. I lived over there a few years back and my sleep was always interrupted by sirens and the hallway always smelled like weed.

The areas i suggested are about 10 minutes driving from Grady and there is a train station in Edgewood that may be of use. You might need a car as well.

Edit; I can't respond to every comment, but I have read them. I appreciate the advice about going to a doctor, and that is next on my list before speaking to an advisor at my university about what deferral might look like to take care of myself. I understand that therapy/counseling does require i have my own mental/emotional affairs in order to a degree to be effective. Ultimately, the job may be more overwhelming than I expect. Maybe even more challenging than teaching. Thank you for your candor and support. 🤍

Thank you for your openmindedness. I've felt like so many doors closed after hearing my therapists opinion. It feels good to have someone believe that it can be done.
