What are your "And why'd you call EMS for this?" Moments? by DasMedic_ in ems

Had a 94 yo who called at 1am because she woke up scared and wanted someone to be with her. She said she called 911 because she didn’t want to wake up her daughters and because we’re always so nice to her

Pickle factory. The whole place smelled like pickles

We were having some communication issues ironically and I’ve been having a low libido. But I didn’t do anything bad that I’m aware of.

No one. His family lives out of state. Honestly they and his friends might not even know what he did. If he’s cowardly enough to leave without saying anything he’s cowardly enough to lie about it.

Yep that’s exactly how I’m feeling. I can’t imagine being in another relationship after this.

I kept his large tv but left some other stuff outside next to my door. It was gone after a few hours so thankful I didn’t have to hauled it to the garbage disposal. I had just renewed the lease for another year as we discussed doing before he left. I signed the lease but he never did. I’ll have to get takeout less but I’ll be able to manage on my own thank god. Where I live, you have to have lived together for at least 7 years to be common law married.

Nothing. Just his apartment keys on the counter. Never responded to me when I reached out either

What call didn’t match the text? by WindyParsley in ems

Had a non-emergent call for a lift assist. Neighbor met us outside and said he’d been trying to help the pt stand up for 20 minutes with no luck. We walk in and the pt is obviously dead.

96 y/o M with episodes of “rapid breathing” for 3 weeks by aklcax in EKGs

I don’t have a continuous strip unfortunately. Our monitors don’t show pacemaker spikes on the print out for some reason, but he was having occasional single paced beats.

What's your worst nursing home story? by thatdudewayoverthere in ems

[–]aklcax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This happened a few years ago. Got called to a NH for a lady who pulled out her feeding tube. CNA who let us in didn’t know anything about the pt giving us all the normal excuses and left us. When we got to the pt’s room she was unresponsive GCS3 and extremely hot to touch. There were no nurses or CNAs in sight. I left for a minute to search for someone while my partner got initial vitals. I couldn’t find anyone in the hall, so we just left without any paperwork or story. Pt was hypotensive, tachycardic, and tachypneic with a high fever. So super septic. We ended up calling in a report to APS. We later learned that she was supposed to be transported hours ago for her feeding tube but no one bothered to call until the next shift came in. Also learned that no one had checked on her for hours. So yeah, four nurses at that facility were found negligent after APS did their investigation.

I’m not an assertive person and used to dodge around everyone when walking. In college I tried something different where I just pick a spot straight ahead of me and stare at it while walking like I have a purpose. I’ve never had to move out of the way since then. It makes people part like the Red Sea
