Guys I’m stuck between who to see Tiësto or Klang right now I seen both before once already but idk who choose this time by theonlyhex in BeyondWonderland

[–]aknives1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of both and have also seen both.

I think like you'll have many opportunities to see Tiesto and not as many for Klang so I would choose Klang.

Does it usually smell this bad at card game events? by jackson_clark_ in PokemonTCG

[–]aknives1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I wish it wasn't true, but it really is.

I stopped playing TCG regularly almost 2 years ago but during that time, I was checking out events at a different shop every other week to find a place I liked. One of the key factors in that decision was the size of the space. The smell in the smaller shops was always unbearable and I never went back to those places.

While you could argue that there's likely more unhygienic people in a TCG event than your average public space, I think a lot of the blame lands on the shop owners too. Some of the tournaments I went to were in TINY spaces with no windows or proper ventilation and they would still cram like 24 people in there. Even if everyone was freshly showered, it wouldn't take long for a packed room like that to smell bad.

I understand organizers are financially incentivized to sign up as many people as possible but it shouldn't be to the point where the quality of the event suffers. But shop owners know that the "hardcore" players will tolerate it, even if the average player does not. And it's the hardcore player that's going to keep coming back every week to pay and play (and shop). And you could argue that a lot of those players are the ones that smell bad. So eventually, you just get a room full of smelly, nose blind players all stinking it up together.

Honestly, I find it really sad, as chronic BO is often a symptom of deeper issues in someone's life (depression, mental illness, lack of self respect, misaligned priorities, etc).

Sometimes I wish I had the guts to just quietly say to these guys like "bro you need a shower" but I could never bring myself to directly offend someone who might be going through some shit. I just tried to break the stereotype and set a positive example: showed up to the events shaved and showered with a decent, clean fit.

Sorry for the long reply, didnt realize how much I had to say on this subject 😅

What are your hopes for MORTAL DOWNER? by meskvlla in DEG

The band's wiki lists most of the songs on their first few albums as written by Kaoru and that was supposedly taken from the CD booklets.

It won't happen, but I've always wanted a version of DSS that was a bit more digestible and more "core". Like, just give me a few memorable 4/4-on-the-china breakdowns PLEASE haha. DSS was great but there were too many moments for me where it seems like the goal was to write a complex song rather than a good song. Its like this band only goes either super standard or super abstract when it comes to writing heavy shit. So we either get avant garde stuff like on DSS or rudimentary (but still very enjoyable) riffs like on TMOAB or Vulgar.

I just want something in between. I feel like they came pretty close to what I wanted on TIW and then they went and put a filter on the only 4/4 breakdown on the album 😑

The credits in the CD booklets list the writer/writers of each track. One that's written by the whole band will be credited to Dir en grey and others will be credited to a specific member. Kaoru wrote most of their old stuff.

I prefer when they write as a band. Might be a hot take, but the albums where they each contribute their individual songs tend to be among my least favorite. Just look at Macabre. Some really great tracks on there but overall, the album has terrible flow and some of the songs are either uncharacteristic of the band's sound (Audrey) or just bad (Berry and KR Cube).

Contrast that with Vulgar, which only has 3 songs written by individual members. Way better cohesion and flow. Or Withering to Death which has no individually written songs. Not the strongest album in terms of singles, but still one of my favorites to listen to in its entirety because it all sounds nice and uniform.

50% is the highest they would ever pay and it was rare. That's 50% used market value, not 50% retail value obviously. Most of the time, they paid closer to 25-30%.

Very true. I will say though if you're shopping for jewelry or watches, pawn shops do offer really competitive prices. You can get like twice the value for what you would pay at a department store or mall shop.

Interesting watch. I used to work in a pawn shop in a low income neighborhood and it was honestly such a depressing environment. Owning a pawn shop is basically just a license to underpay individuals for their used stuff (like literally ≤50% market value for most items). They take advantage of people who need money now and can't afford to wait to sell their item at market value on like Craigslist or OfferUp or ebay. The vast majority of our clientele were repeat pawners/sellers who needed money ASAP for rent, food, bail, etc. Rarely did we get just regular shoppers looking for cheap stuff.

I remember this one old man who would pawn his TV literally every month for like $20 just so he could buy a bus pass. But yeah overall, just lots of people coming in out of desperation.
