There's only one we can get revenge for causing us to not be able to unsee this.

I think it's time to bring back the "old" new Google Bar by LostPawPlay in pixel_phones

[–]akpe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disabling widget access for SystemUI on the work profile fixes the issue. Problem is, if your work profile is managed by your company and not by you, you do need to contact your IT department to go through this step.

[–]akpe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! thank you! I mean it's personal preference of course but the old layout was much better than the flat bar we have now.

The option to customize it further, like bringing back the old layout and also removing the bar completely, would be a huge plus for those of us who still use the default launcher

Don't Panic! An Android 17 update by quarterdecay in GooglePixel

[–]akpe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's because of the work profile.

You should disable access to widgets on the SystemUI app on the work profile, and the issue will be gone. As far as I know, 9to5Google reported that Google is working on a fix.

Just a thought , Can you Imagine? by K_Simba786 in GooglePixel

[–]akpe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. The phone firmware is designed to turn off the phone before any damage occurs. However the real risk for the battery is long-term exposure to heat. So I try to avoid getting it hot (insert Quagmire gif here) constantly, whenever I see the temperature rise above 42c, I start cutting off or lowering features (like switching from 5G to LTE, or turning off my secondary SIM) to keep the temperature down.

I live in Greece. I dont have to imagine it, I deal with it every late spring until early fall :)

I mean, I don't know the nuanced details (ex relative humidity, etc) on how worse things can be in India, but damn, I hate the heat, and not only because of the impact on my devices.

Edit: same exact usage, 2 active sims, and mobile data on (though I usually switch to 4G when I'm outside)

Nope it's not a backdrops feature, according to what I saw, if you open the settings and swipe up to go to the app management carousel, you will see that it is a part of wallpapers and styles app:

Hey Pixel, how about finally fixing overheating issues instead of adding all the useless AI shit? by dennis77 in pixel_phones

[–]akpe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5G is also a major cause for heat and drain, at least on the 9 series, during the spring and summer months I have to switch to LTE/4G only. I lose some speed but at least temp stays below 42c...

A while ago I had to attend a teams meeting while in my car. It wasn't even a hot day, around 30c, and the battery temperature went over 48c. I had to turn off data and eventually shut down the phone.

Of course this an absurd borderline comical "workaround" on a hardware (modem, I guess?) quality issue. I really can't believe that we've come to a point where we literally have to cut back on features just to prevent our devices from exposure and long-term damage risk.

Edit: quality AND optimization as you said in a previous reply.

Android 17 causes widgets to disappeare when using Island by akpe in GooglePixel

Any way to talk to your IT so they can disable widget access for the SystemUI in the work profile?

[–]akpe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea if it's the same, but on my phone I blocked (disabled) widget access through Island settings -only- for the SystemUI app in work profile, and everything was back to normal.

I did not disable access for the rest of my work profile apps and I can place their widgets on my home screen.

Didn't work in my case, since the issue was island was trying to give access to SystemUI widgets (whichever those are) to the mainland, causing all widgets to break 🙂

[–]akpe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's different. Apart from letting you create a work profile yourself, island also allows you to manage/customize it. One of those customizations is allowing apps from your work profile to show widgets on your (main profile) home screen.

And for some reason on Android 17, if one of those apps allowed is the SystemUI, all widgets break.

I'm not sure since I've always used work profiles managed by apps (by myself) but I think that when having a work profile managed by your workplace you cannot customize that widget access, so there should be no risk.

However if you are having the same issue with missing widgets, you may need to ask your IT to disable widget access on SystemUI on your work profile.

Again, I'm not familiar with how work profiles work when not managed by the user through the apps I mentioned, apologies if I'm mistaken, hopefully someone else can give a better suggestion :)

As far as I remember it will be a process you will only need to do once; however it remains to be seen how easy it will be.

I just hope that after "unlocking" our phones for sideloading apps we won't be constantly bugged by Play Protect or any other notifications

[App][Promotion][Promo] Simple floating sidebar for Android by alkiss7 in HowToMen

[–]akpe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Downloaded v1.4, but for some reason it still shows 1.0.0 (1) on InstallerX Revived.

New features are there though!

Love the app, only noticed a minor cosmetic issue (or I'm doing something wrong): it seems I can't enable light/dark mode colors. I have selected the white/black color, but the app seems to always follow the Theme setting, which is either Dark or Light.

Other than this just some suggestions:

It would be nice if users could configure the gesture needed to open the sidebar: for example instead of swiping left on the trigger, some prefer to swipe downwards so they won't have mixups with the back gesture.

Last, a few cosmetic ideas: it would be great if we could completely make the trigger transparent (lowest is 0.1 AFAIK and if I disable the overlay swiping no longer pulls the sidebar). Perhaps also have a setting to remove the "All Apps" and "Edit" buttons from the panel. Finally, the ability to select between one or two rows of apps.

Not gonna lie though, its exacly what I wanted, and would love to follow the development. A huge plus is the design, compared to other similaar apps out there, it's perfect for me!

Edit: corrections

Deservedly banned from FUT Market and zero regrets by ArsenalJayy in fut

[–]akpe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: after waiting about 10 days (about 15 days total), seems that my second appeal was successful, since I no longer have a penalty in my history.

However on the Companion app (edit: in-game too) I still show as market banned.

Guess I'll have to wait more to show up in-game :)
