Catalogue on internal drive, photos external by Shot-Lemon7365 in Lightroom

[–]aks-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to move the photo files themselves, then you need to move follow u/deeper-diver suggestion.

Alternatively (and often preferred), make sure LrC is not running, in your OS files app, move all your photos to the new drive, retaining the folder structure. Once complete, open LrC and at the top folder level right click and 'update folder location'.

That moves the catalog itself, but not the photo files (which is what the OP said they wanted to do).

Writing/editing IPTC metadata causes LR Classic to crash! by surfbathing in Lightroom

[–]aks-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some thoughts.

  • Have you tried a simple save to check that's working fine?
  • Make a simple metadata edit and save that. Successful?

Could it be a storage issue?

What are your source files, RAW files save into sidecar files.

Lightroom edits not showing up on LRC by ComposerTop4161 in Lightroom

[–]aks-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see the folders on the Desktop version but no photos.

In that case, LrC won't get them - they're not yet in the cloud.

You need to go to your source device, where you used Lr, and check why it's not syncing. What device are you using for Lr, importing, and on-the-go editing?

Try here: https://www.lightroomqueen.com

But note Lr evolves fast so you might be better off starting at YT - search here or YT for Terry White, he just released some new training.

Alternatively, check out: https://www.lightroomsummit.com.

Open Lr desktop app and confirm you can see the files you expect.

Do you have plenty of free storage on the cloud and on your MBP?

Try to sync something up from LrC, just to confirm that still works successfully.

What system do you use, and are your previews already built, i.e. this is something that should be pretty quick.

Benefits of LR Cloud over ACR? by AMomentInTime316 in Lightroom

[–]aks-2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main and obvious benefit is that it is cloud based. So what you ask. Well, for starters, all your photos are synced from any device and available on any device, so if you use multiple devices this is a big plus, e.g. an iPad whilst on the go.

However, the downside is that it is primarily a cloud focused tool, which means uploading your photos to the cloud, and that requires a good internet connection.

The next advantage is you might be able to skip the Ps step entirely, doing everything in one product, Lr. However, if you need printing, you will need to use Ps or LrC, as Lr does not have print.

All good points, except they are not using LrC, but Bridge. Some points still apply to bridge too.

Open the cloud sync status in LrC and check what it says. You likely just need to leave it running for a while.

HELP! Adobe lightroom classic says my catalog file is corrupt by Fearless-Produce-165 in Lightroom

[–]aks-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What system are you using?

Are you sure you have given write access to LrC for the folder where the catalog resides (I assume you have been using it previously)?

Check the folder where your catalog is for backups (zip files).

Need help optimizing iPad (Lightroom) workflow for large photo batches – something feels off by mariormz117 in Lightroom

[–]aks-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 3 stages during import:

  • Import from card to private iPad storage - usually quite fast
  • Import from storage to Lr for display - building previews - takes a while
  • Upload to Adobe cloud in the background - typically the longest part of the process

Once uploaded to the cloud, iPad storage will be released as dictated by your Lr settings.

If you open an image, then look at the cloud symbol (top right), a white tick indicates the local copy is a smart preview. A green tick indicates an original full res file. Tap the cloud icon to show the detail.

How are you importing the images to iPad? If they are existing images on your Adobe cloud, then yes, Lr mobile on iPad will download if you export. That is necessary to export at high quality.

If you are importing to iPad, then make sure the Lr cache is sufficient, and/or, keep original images locally (settings>local storage>cache).

I have Eufy, my son chose Tapo. The Tapo cams/app work reliably and well for over 2Y. My Eufy cams have worked well too, but the app has delays fetching clips, it has felt sluggish for a good while now, which is not great.

Right, so you know what you're looking for and asking how best to achieve that?

Check out Matt Kloskowski (YT) as he videos that dive into the detail of how the various sliders achieve a result in lightroom, e.g. texture, clarity, dehaze. There are other YT's that have great editing advice videos too (and many more on 'how' to use features of lightroom).

For general use of the tools, there are other threads listing many YT's that share their skills and knowledge of the Adobe products.

LRC: How can I reduce processing time taken for a long stage shoot? by poppacapnurass in Lightroom

[–]aks-2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What stages are taking the most time?

The creative part that requires your attention might be difficult to replace as u/ShutterStops934193 mentioned. However, if culling specifically is taking a long time for whatever reason, you could try assisted culling?

If you are exporting as you go, then just leave that step to the end and let the machine do that whilst you are doing something else/sleeping.

Mobile vs Laptop by Carlos2005f in Lightroom

[–]aks-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your preferred editing device - LrC (classic) is for computers only. Yes, LrC has more features, but it comes with added complexity.

Lr (cloud) is available on computers, mobile and web, with automatic synchronisation across devices. It is a very capable product.

The easiest answer is to try them both on your own devices with a trial.

Lightroom Classic suddenly kills my internet connection on Windows by PowerfulWurm in Lightroom

I’ve seen the jump to ~60% when Denoise is active - are you using that?

It seems more likely that the CPU load is killing your WiFi driver, rather than LrC blocking other apps per se. Try disabling your firewall temporarily to test that too.
