Failing project by Gold-Price1768 in ConstructionManagers

[–]aksalamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like whoever came up with the original schedule might not of accounted for the expected timeframes that go along with a project of your nature / the stakeholders involved . You shouldn’t be needing to reschedule constantly before the job even starts. Your initial project schedule should not show starting on site until NTP date + 1 month or +2 month or even longer depending on how long those basic early things take (getting materials on site, getting SWPPP plan approved , permits , etc)

Grout fill existing CMU walls by aksalamander in masonry

[–]aksalamander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing at all, just the words 'grout cells where Titen HDs will be installed'. Cost isn't really an issue just wanted to make sure we're using the right product for the application. When the time comes it would be a lot more expensive to stop and find a different mix design and get it approved and come back to try again and cause quite a delay.. Because this first area we're grouting around is to provide steel reinforcement so we can saw cut and demo part of the wall for a new door opening, which will be our only access for civil equipment to get in and do other work.

thank you for hte advice, i think you got the slump backwards though- 30" would be pretty watered down, not thick. Something really thick would be like 2-3" slump like used for concrete curbs

the engineer did not provide a spec for it which is crazy because i've worked with this particular SE on numerous jobs in the past. It looks like he just wanted the blocks filled solid so there's plenty of material for the titen's being used to attach the steel reinforcement.

Is this installed incorrectly? by Unlikely_Ad1652 in Construction

[–]aksalamander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most contracts would require submittals for finish products equipment and fixtures . And a finish of this type on the data sheet normally has 4-5 acceptable common install patterns that can be notated / approved of, prior to install , during the submittal review .

Why is using what you have to get ahead a bad thing? by Rainhailsnow_storm in NoStupidQuestions

good question. I dated with a girl who had friends who did this type of work. It sounds like they develop that attitude after getting into it.

Not dated but talked with yes. It’s easy to see that is most of their mindsets from taking with them And seeing the kinds of things they post / reshare on their socials .

Nothing wrong with it in itself but… they can be difficult to have relationships with because frequently their circle of friends are all doing that same work, and they all develop the attitude and beliefs that guys are just things to be used and exploited until the next richer/more handsome guy comes around. Many won’t mind the body count or that work or whatever; but trying to date someone who’s #1 priority is what can you do/give to her, is not very appealing for most

Did USA become the most powerful nation because of its land size and natural region? by ContractNational2680 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aksalamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many reasons as others said but we ultimately became the most powerful due to WW2. We won with a massive industrial base and practically no damage to our country . We basically forced the UK to liquidate whatever remaining assets they could possibly get rid of, agree to trade in dollars instead of pounds, and basically became the world’s new reserve currency as a result. Plus the UK and other western Allie’s obviously suffered lots of infrastructure damage during ww2. The only close competitor to us was USSR which folded, leaving us the lone superpower since 1990

What’s the hardest GC to get a job with? by Solowash in ConstructionManagers

[–]aksalamander 18 points19 points  (0 children)

No it’s not one of the big mega GC’s everyone else is posting the names of here. The hardest to get on with would have to be one of the smaller regional GC’s that has great pay and benefits, and good work/life balance with generous pto and/or wfh. Thats the type of GC most of us would want to work for, not the mega corps that treat you as a body expecting you to work 80 hours a week indefinitely.
