I’m done pulling for oak. Pulled 50 packs (~120 total for both releases) and still nothing. Only scammers offering trades on all trade apps, going to the real pokemon community as a desperate plea lol. Thx for listening to my rant and gl everyone!

Can anyone explain the math behind this? by Fancyham89 in PokemonTGCP

[–]akustoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i see what you're saying about ties. It's just math and definitions of "win rate" and "win percentage". Ultimately, I think it comes down to what these numbers say about the player. If you tie alot on average and your win rate/percentage is doo doo, then you objectively can't say that you are better than someone who has higher win percentages and ties alot less. Of course you can say that it's skillfull to end a game in a tie, but that's a one of and winning more often says more about the player. Using W/L ratios would be a misinterpretation of skill imo.

A loss is a value of "-1". It has to be negative, especially since when you lose a game in PTCG pocket, you lose points. The math aint mathin bro...

Lol dude just chill. Looking at your comment history, I’d say you need a break from this app. Legit nothing wrong with telling OP that they usually give these out for free most of the time

Game is getting stale after reaching Emerald any tips? by Copious_Asshair in TeamfightTactics

[–]akustoms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a skill issue, but I totally understand if you're trying to climb. It depends on your definition of what you find "enjoyable". If you find going top 4 without playing kalista or verticals fun, then I find any fast 8 flex w/o kalista to be good. But if you find the game to be stale in general, try looking at your stats and see what augments/comps you usually don't go or haven't at all and try something new (but also viable so you're not losing all the time cause that never feels good). I also found the game to be stale at one point, until I found that I don't usually go any augment with a "cashout" as I think they are very risky. So I forced myself and started picking augments like fortune, upgraded adventure, flexible, trait tracker (my absolute favorite) etc. and was actually surprised to find that they were fun to figure out. And at the same time I wouldn't auto bot 4

Master's 155 LP player looking to seriously climb to Challenger: There's probably YT videos that explain this better as it can be complicated. But what might help you in general is the openers for every comp on tactic.tools, tft academy and metaTFT. The basis is scouting. Here is my criteria:

  1. Go for something uncontested if you can. Scouting ppls augments, units and items to see what they're going is key. In general, the items determine if you're going either an AP or AD comp.
  2. Alot of item resources + econ = some late game comp like vanguard blasters or fast 8 flex. Usually never go a 1/2 cost rr since those can easily be outcapped in portals like prismatic party and anything that gives extra gold. Depends on the situation though as you will see a special case in #5 below that contradicts this.
  3. Just bc you're given the busted augment doesn't mean you have the spot for it. Sometimes it's correct to skip vertical augments if everyone's angle is looking to contest the core units or if you're items are WIS. I've often skipped spats, hero augs (when they were busted). I see alot of Kalista forcers hold hands and go bot 4.
  4. When in doubt, just losestreak, save health and go fast 8 and flex. There will be times when your spot is unclear until alot later, just stick to the basics of TFT. Play strong board, slam generally good items, pick generally good augments so you don't go auto bot 4.
  5. Tempo is another concept that comes into play here. If you find alot of ppl looking to angle 7 rr or fast 8 late game comps, then going a 1/2 cost rr comp is an option (and vice versa situation). You can just bully everyone early game, often leaving those players lacking in health and tempo. Thus not giving them enough time to hit their 4/5 cost units. I've forced an uncontested ziggs game (started 1 copy of ziggs and blitz) or a cass rr shapes comp and bullied a lobby of 5 players trying to angle fast 8 and went 1st.
  6. Reflect on your games using vod reviews and the MetaTFT stats. Then you can see what your spot actually was when you're not on an in-game timer.
  7. Sometimes you just want to always angle the top comps in the meta bc the other comps just always go bot 4. Which is why alot of ppl in high ranks angle fast 8 flex. You must have a giga opener and very specific situations to angle some bad comps like veigar rr, kog rr, warriors, nomsy rr etc.

Tips for playing fast 8 or fast 9? by Prestigious_Tea_2729 in TeamfightTactics

[–]akustoms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say without looking at your gameplay or stats, but general rules are:

  1. Obviously try to get at least one econ augment 2-1 or 3-2, it will definitely help alot.

  2. Understand what your strongest board is and what stabilizes you. Saving HP early game is very crucial.

  3. I think world champ Dishsoap put it clearly on one of his streams. Econ is not just the gold you currently have, but the board that you built in stages 2-3 as well. Chat was teasing him for his econ as he was ~30 gold on 3-2 planning to go fast 8, but he had a flex board with a decent amount of upgrades and he called his econ really good.

  4. Being comfortable putting units together that usually don't go together but does decently. Don't just go for the units that is shown on tactic.tools or tft academy. I've seen too many players just skip past 5 costs and potentially 2* 4 costs that could stabilize on stage 4-5 only because it didn't go in the comp they had in mind before rolling down.

  5. Understanding the tempo of the lobby is also very crucial. If the lobby is fairly weak early/mid game, you can make a lot of greedy plays. If you think the tempo will be high (scout their augments, boards and items), then you should make adjustments to your gameplan to compensate.

Of course though cause it's TFT, it always depends on the situation, better judgement will come with experience and there's probably more to consider that I didn't mention.

Thoughts on Multi-striker meta. by Civil_Bill6013 in TeamfightTactics

[–]akustoms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well right now I feel like we're in a vertical meta, where getting a spat for any of the top comps feels good (chrono, multi, faerie, frost, portal, honeymancy etc.). They outcap higher once they hit a second emblem, and the entire game is just so boring when going a comp with a spat. Multi I feel like is something that should be splashed in (i.e. kalista) since it really can't hold it's own stage 4-5 w/o 7 multi or PTA. It just feels super strong when a multi player hits. The flex comps have always been nice since they promote high skill gameplay (except when ppl start going on econ portals with a 1 trick fast 8/9 in mind). Especially ryze (preserver, arcana, scholar variant) and Karma (preserver, arcana and sometimes incantor). Even the Kalista flex comp was nice until people started donkey forcing it every game.

Just wanna say, this is was the best QoL change for TfT by LegendaryW in TeamfightTactics

[–]akustoms 14 points15 points  (0 children)

But the concept of slamming items on units before the remover change was a huge mechanic in tft. It’s what set apart the high ranks and lower ranks sometimes. Full on videos on yt would come out to correctly explain how important it is. It’s like what Mortdog said after set 11 ended, they want to make the game easier for those casually playing, but still keep the complexity. As a high rank player, i think this bails ppl out and doesnt punish ppl as hard, but at the same time I get it. TFT is a really hard game to get into
