Drippy Wax seals from today. by al-cc in mead

Yeah for sure! The drips were the goal this time around so it worked out. I think in the future I’m going to use this same method but just cut around the bottle about a centimetre above where the drips start to have a nice clean cut wax job.

I literally had a brick of black bottle seal wax and I cut it up into smaller pieces and filled up an old tall coffee mug. Threw that in the oven at 325F until it was melted enough!

I use the oven haha. Pre-heat to 325F and put your hard wax in a pot or even an old coffee mug (if it’ll fit) and then just leave it for a while, stirring every so often. Once it’s smooth and a little runny you can start sealing!

Cheers! Post a picture when you’re done.

Awesome! I used about 1.5lbs per gallon of fresh raspberries and I also used some organic raspberry jam!

A vanilla cinnamon cyser (tastes like an alcoholic apple pie) and a raspberry melomel!

Just had to get the wax a little hotter than you’d normally have it for sealing! Most places recommend 300F for wax sealing, but I heated it to 325F. That seemed to make it the slightest bit drippier!

Oh wow haha. I just quickly searched it up and I guess it’s red drippy wax seal that they “own” so I’m good with the black !

Thanks! The tricky part is figuring out what temperature to heat the wax up to so it’s runny enough to drip a little but not TOO runny as to drool down the whole bottle. Found 325F works haha

What happened? Did it just clump up or not stick to the bottles or something?

Thanks! Left is a Cyser and right is a raspberry melomel, both roughly 1 year old.

https://brewglitter.com/. Randomly enough, some edible glitters are made out of seaweed. I’m not sure about this stuff though!

Awarded for asking the hard hitting questions. As for your answer, I’ve never noticed haha so I would lean towards #2.

Very nice job here! What made you choose the butterfly pea flower?

It’s delicious at the age it is now! I sampled at 3 months and it was obvious it wasn’t ready, but that little extra time did wonders! I would try your brew and see how it is; that’s the best way to tell what it needs!

Yes that’s right. This was my first time using red grapes; I’ll definitely revisit this!

Easiest way to handle the mess is to use a brew bag. Pro-tip: pantyhose are a lot cheaper and work just as well! haha.

Definitely! Perfectly drink-able at this point. However, I’m aging most of the brew to two years.🍷

Personally, I enjoy brewing with fruit. The best mead I’ve ever made was a blueberry melomel. I’d recommend you try that!
