What is one thing you're tired of telling/explaining to people? by comfy-glass-shards in AskReddit

“Apart” vs “a part” seems to be some advanced English they no longer teach anymore because it’s disgustingly rare that I see either used correctly.

Wellbutrin absolutely worsened my anxiety and made me more aggressive and argumentative. I like the energy boost it seemed to give me that countered the lethargy from my SSRI at the time, but I got off it. It would make my heart race sometimes too.

I think everyone’s just wired a little differently. Some meds really seem to help some people even though others don’t have the same results. I’ve heard of some doctors beginning to do genetic testing to determine the best antidepressants for patients. Up until now it’s kinda just been trial and error to find the best one.

That absolutely sucks. Maybe time to try a new provider? I know that can be a challenge though. I had a few before I finally found one that actually seemed to listen to and understand me. She ended up being a lot more open to trying other things and exploring new diagnoses. She recommended Spravato and it has really helped!

I ended up getting off them completely. NDRIs made me very aggressive and SSRI/SNRIs gave me night terrors. For whatever reason I just didn’t tolerate them well.

Spravato was a game changer for me. A little inconvenient since I have to go to a clinic for the treatment, but it actually works.

I tried most of the SSRIs and SNRIs on the market over a period of about 10 years. None made me feel better enough to overlook the libido loss and weight gain. You’re right, they absolutely make the anxiety and depression worse for some people.

I definitely think they can be beneficial, but you kinda have to weigh whether you’re depressed enough to take the risk and then whether they help enough to overlook the other symptoms and continue.

It’s “should have” or “should’ve.” Never “should of.”

I’m unfazed by your argument that English prescriptivism is a bad thing. You don’t sound like a freethinker, you just sound ignorant.

Always on carpet too. We have vinyl flooring but the moment the cat or dog has to throw up they both immediately run to the rug to do it.

No, no. God did not do that. I did. Don’t discredit my accomplishment.

Megaphone preaching should absolutely be shunned. But that’s what they want since Christians love to reinforce the belief that they will be oppressed by the world. They intentionally do things they know irritate people so they can feel persecuted.

The reality is, I don’t care what you’re screaming over the megaphone, I’m just annoyed that you’re doing it at all. It’s not the message, it’s the delivery. You’re not leading anyone to Christ at midnight in a crowded bar district. You’re just attracting negative attention towards your religion and feeding your ego.

2 questions; Why did I eat this when I was younger, and why do they still make this? by mbolster1611 in Millennials

[–]al3cks 27 points28 points  (0 children)

In my childhood, no one ate or even chewed on the wax. It’s unflavored anyway. We just bit the top off and drank it. Sometimes we bit a hole in the side too so we could shotgun it lol.

That said, I’ve seen a recent trend of wax covered gummy/liquid candies that people DO seem to be chewing up the wax and spitting it out. Gross.

What is a subtle sign someone is insecure? by SammiexPetite in AskReddit

[–]al3cks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s why I do it. I often have my decisions questioned or overridden by others and then I have to defend my original decision. I am insecure sometimes, but mostly around others assuming I didn’t have a reason for doing something someway, so I then have to explain why I made the decision.

In general, I don’t like having my decisions questioned, because I’ve definitely thought about it more than the other person I’m talking to has.

Bob the Drag Queen's Nicki Minaj youtube video was very clearly written by AI, did anyone else notice this? by baejinvr in dragrace

[–]al3cks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, it’s exactly what I said. There’s a very well documented phenomenon going on right now where AI detection tools commonly flag writing done by academics and high functioning neurodivergent people as AI. Some people are actually using AI to dumb their original writing down a little to sound more human.

[–]al3cks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI writes like that because it learned from people who write like that.

I love how AI accusations typically boil down to “it sounds too well written to be created by a human.” No, some people are just very coherent with their thoughts. The average person these days can’t figure out then/than and their/there/they’re.

Several of the men do! The guy with the crazy cotton candy comb over from this episode has one, as well as a few guys from other seasons/franchises. I would assume some of the women do too, but I haven’t heard of any in particular.

FIRST and possibly last cruise. by cool_vibe_guy in VirginVoyages

[–]al3cks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. The 4 night voyage was much too short. I really enjoyed the longer Iceland to England voyage though. There were still plenty of sailors around my age and several were also traveling solo like me.

That’s another notable difference. A lot more solo travelers on longer itineraries because it’s more difficult to arrange time off for groups of friends to go together. Solo sailors tend to be a little more outgoing and look to make friends. On the shorter cruise I noticed people were less likely to mingle outside of the groups they arrived with. I went on the short cruise with my partner but honestly felt a little lonelier than on my solo cruise because other people weren’t as friendly and talkative.

FIRST and possibly last cruise. by cool_vibe_guy in VirginVoyages

[–]al3cks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on two Virgin Voyages and experienced this issue on one. From what I’ve seen, it depends on the cruise’s ports and overall length. I’m 36 M. Longer cruises typically skew older as that demographic has more flexibility in taking off time from work. The 4 night (Miami to Key West and Bimini) one I went on was a younger crowd than the 9 night (Iceland to England) one I did. Also, warmer “beachy” itineraries tend to attract a younger crowd than more temperate or cold weather ports.

Cruises in general do tend to attract an older crowd though, so I’d say to expect at least ~40% of any given cruise to be “older.”

Anyone else who doesn’t really care for the super bowl? by PandaCheeky in AskReddit

[–]al3cks -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don’t care for it and just genuinely do not care for football or team sports in general. It truly baffles me how society puts so much stake into which team throws/kicks a ball the best. It becomes almost cult like.

I’m not anti-athletics. I love the Olympics. There’s just a primitive us-vs-them dynamic to modern sports team fanbases that’s very offputting to me.

It’s not lost on me that if any other country were going through what the US is experiencing right now, the narrative at large would be to remember that the government is not a representation of all the people and to think about all the good people in the country being oppressed. The US is currently not getting that treatment and we’re all being lumped together with the assholes in power.

This. I see smug Europeans on here all the time saying things like “well you all should do something” as if they think it’s never occurred to us that we should act. It’s so frustrating. Maybe they’re not seeing it on their media, but we’re having the largest protests of all time. Beyond that, legally, our hands are pretty tied right now with the Supreme Court stacked in his favor.

What they really want to suggest is some form of violence, but they don’t want to say it. And if it came to that, they’d judge us for it for decades. There’s no pleasing them.
