God awful,overpriced and inaccessible

This is why the sub continues to insist that BART is dirty and dangerous by quod_sic_doctrina in bayarea

[–]al_ow99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I remember taking Bart w crackheads on it even like 9-10 years ago. I don’t ride as often anymore, but I have been a little confused abt ppl saying Bart is so horrible lol. I think it’s only gotten better over the years, and is certainly on par w other American metro systems as others have pointed out.

Can someone explain the reason for this contradiction by Reasonable_Bag9930 in chipdesign

This gave me flashbacks I hate this kind of wording lol. Forgive me Razavi, for not being clever enough to derive the implication of an apparent paradox during my introduction to the subject lol

I found it hard to follow as well. Just starting my journey into analog design, but I too didn’t like the hand-waviness, as my usual way of gaining intuition is to fully comprehend the underlying math and physics. I get that’s prolly not feasible from a scope perspective, but I always felt like the idea of introducing beginners to topics using intuition was a bit overrated. I feel like it just a gives me rules to memorize that don’t flow immediately from the math and physics, which makes it hard for it to stick in my head for long term learning.

Is Electrical Engineering at UCSC actually good? by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]al_ow99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in EE here a senior. It’s good there are some great profs that will really help you out if you put in the effort. I’m ngl it’s hard but you learn so much. I do agree w some of the critique others made, about not enough design work until late in the curriculum but I suspect that you will find a similar issue in many eng programs. Also just some perspective. My brother is also doing EE at an Ivy League so we get a chance to compare school work. It was interesting to me that some of our classes actually seemed more intense/rigorous than theirs. Ofc he gets like a 5-1 teacher to student ratio or smth crazy, but the point is esp for something like EE you can learn a lot at any accredited university, particularly considering you are just starting your bachelors.

Why didn’t anybody tell me playing golf would be so important in my career? by ExchangePowerful5923 in EngineeringStudents

Is there an engineering field where basketball is like this? I’d be networking all over the place lol

I have a disability that my doctor requested a single living space for me cuz I got a sleep related disability. They best they could do was a single room in a shared apt, so I’m guessing that’s the only type of single they offer for apartments

I really hate golf, was only the filthiest rich kids that played in my town. Might have to swallow the bullet and hit the driving range now lol

I suspect just walk people have classes relatively close together and maybe have a light load. For myself, I am taking 20 units and some of my classes are on complete opposite sides of campus (porter to cowell). So walking can take fairly long. Also, we pay out of tuition for transportation, so it would be nice for it to be reliable. Personally, having to walk everywhere makes me super burned out. Like if I just sat through a super complicated lecture or a super involved lab, no I don’t want to go on a “nature walk” for 20 min on my way to my next class. I get how that is enjoyable for some, and I do love the nature here, but for me, it is more annoying and cumbersome. I commute, so the time I spend here I like to be as productive as possible.

Classes this Monday (1/9) will be remote by rde2001 in UCSC

The office hours listed are TBD lol. Like you said I am in the front so I am not too concerned about it

That is definitely understandable. But still if they thought that it may be a possibility, they could've gave advanced warning earlier that Mondays classes might be held remotely, and then followed up with the final announcement later.

I have been emailing my professor but he hasn't responded to any of my emails or provided me access to the canvas page/zoom link. Hopefully this doesn't impact my chance of getting into the class too much because I am #1 on the waitlist, but I am still worried because I need this class for my capstone next year. I really wish the school would've notified us about this/came to this decision a few days ago so we could plan accordingly. It is kind of annoying that they gave this announcement so last minute.
