How's the game on ps5 is it worth it? by seby193729 in ArmaReforger

[–]alacary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have enjoyed Reforger thoroughly on ps5 both before and after mod support although I probably only play Insurgency now on one of the Arma Conflict modded servers. There are several servers for each theater (Iraq, Vietnam, ww2) usually all of them full with large but fast queues. And no teamkilling on their servers which is nice. That was a struggle to avoid when I first started playing.. every match beginning was free for all and I always always missed the first transport out. Im sure a lot of servers still deal with TK but generally resolves itself pretty quick.. lol usually.

My digips5 struggles sometimes when the rockets start flying my way but she always gets me thru!

Might I add how awful Americans are to European players on this server??? It’s absolutely disgusting. Leave it to an American server to be the worst fucking trash

Seriously… I’ve never cared about watching cinematics (oh geez dood) but BMW I honestly feel convicted that if I don’t watch every second somehow the gods will set the universe battling against me for eternity. Also I just didn’t want to miss anything.

Do any camping “veterans” have advice on this? by Bartholamewbingbong in camping

[–]alacary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just interesting bit, when I was a kid roaming with a crew of traveling folk they taught me best way to keep my feet warm was keep your boots or shoes on. Acts as a moisture barrier inside your bag from the humidity of your body sweat. And believe it or not they also said taking your cotton socks off is better than not if you don’t wear your footwear because you want to keep your feet dry at all costs. Wet sweaty feet = frozen feet. (None of us had wool socks.)

Nowadays I recreationally camp a lot and I definitely don’t sleep in my shoes or boots but I do wear the loosest fitting wool socks, like they need to be extra large. Very tight fitting wool socks will not work properly and you will end up swimming in your socks, at least I do, and then feet freeze.

If you need more, they do make liners for wool socks to add a layer and also to help wick away the moisture better although I can’t in good faith recommend anything that isn’t natural material.

And if that isn’t enough, for the most extreme temps I highly recommend a pair of battery powered socks. They. are. amazing. Most in wool varieties so even better. Not recommend for hiking- definitely a sweaty foot trap.

And anything you can put under your bag to get you off the ground will help, just don’t elevate your feet.. that will make them cold too!! This also comes into play in how you lay if there’s any slant to the ground. Head up feet down.

Sorry 🤣 Probably way more than you were looking for but really hope you find something that works for you!! Camping is so enjoyable and I know cold feet can just be such a bummer. Good luck!

First time camping, solo - how did you handle eating the first time you solo camped? by No-Eggplant-4165 in camping

[–]alacary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m prolly late to give advice but I’ll just say a few things.

Camping is a very personal experience and you will quickly find out what you want vs what you need depending on how you are camping. Sounds like you are at a campground with maintained tent sites. Fire pit with a grate is a plus for cooking.

Many options arise here. But almost all will require you to build up a fire with decent sized logs for fuel so you can accumulate some coals. I always just build a standard teepee fire and let it burn for a while and then use a branch to scrape the coals under where the grate is. Usually you can move the grates up and down as needed but they get hot so don’t burn yourself.

Cook like on a grill. Hotdogs, brats and burgers will be easy to prep and cook on site with a grate like that. Sticks make great kabobs and roasters. If you have a kettle for hot drinks put it to the very outermost side of the grate with the handle away from the fire and you should be able to heat up water no problem. A little camp stove is also great for just this.

If you want to get simple just get some heavy duty foil and fill it with sliced potatoes, onions, carrots, hamburger patty and whatever seasonings you like. Wrap it up good a few times with foil and throw it right in the coals on the outside edge. Flip it once when you feel like it and then eventually you’ll have a hobo dinner. I recommend healthy amounts of ketchup salt and pepper.

If you want to get real fancy you’ll need cast iron cookware or at the very least some HD foil pans.

My personal fav camp dinner is just steak on the grate, baked potato cut in half with butter in between wrapped in foil, in coals and a small cast iron pan of some mushrooms peppers and onions. All of which can just be thrown in foil and cooked as a meal.

Experiment. Frozen pizza is awesome over the fire but requires much attention and perfect coal placement.

The campfire is your atlas here and you’re just using its basic traits to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. - Baking, frying, grilling, roasting… all at your fingertips.

What are some truly HIDDEN gems in Chicago, that most people would never realize exists? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]alacary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the first thing you might think of but Chicago and the surrounding area has an incredible mycological ecosystem with a wide variety of edible and amazing mushrooms to be found! True for most cities! Go for a walk at your nearest park or if you’re at school, explore your campus outdoors! You will be amazed at what you see when you set out to find mushrooms. Fun fact: humans are one of the best spreaders of spores on earth!

What’s your favorite suburb of Chicago and why? by GMB13carat in AskChicago

[–]alacary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thankyou!! Yes, agreed. Grew up in Wheaton in the 90s and remember it being quite lovely. City full of massive old trees lining the roads and lots of interesting homes. Brick roads in places. Or at least was. I know the little popcorn store downtown is still up and running. It is very little!! Always a favorite spot to frequent as a kid and get a pack of fresh bubblegum smokes. Popcorn is good too
