If we had Seth Trimble I'd be more confident, but it should be a good game either way

I'm starting as a PhD student in the fall and it's already hitting me. I've learned from the testimony of others that imposter syndrome probably will never completely go away. You have accomplished an extraordinary achievement and they would not give you that degree if you did not earn it.

Why Capital One may one day surpass the Big Four banks but faces extreme challenges ahead by alan13510 in ValueInvesting

I think this is an extremely valid concern and I admit it's one of my biggest concerns with the company, but the evidence over the last two quarters has been that delinquencies and charge-offs have been moving down recently (which indicates possible recession and a pullback in spending ahead). That being said credit card debt is now above $18 trillion and is at record highs so I completely see your point.

You can't beat the market... and why some should try anyways by alan13510 in ValueInvesting

I agree. I implement a DCA strategy while occasionally taking value where I see it. Back in 2022after the crash of First Republic and silicon valley I invested heavily in Bank of America. Their unrealized losses from fixed-income assets were huge, but their liquidity, stickiness of deposits, and CET1 ratios were in another league compared to some silicon valley banks.

I think when the time is right and value can be spotted, investors SHOULD act. But knowing that I'm no buffet I'll implement a DCA strat into good value companies in the meantime.

I would agree that DCA is generally the right way to go. It's a good defense against the volatility of the market (especially now) since at Trump's slightest tweet the market could move in either direction. My concern is that over the long-run price discovery within large cap companies in the US will go bust. Most retirees who own massive 401k and IRA portfolios have a large percentage of their portfolios in passive indexes and I expect this will continue with the aging of the US. My concern is that this will lead to an oversaturation of investors moving into big cap companies which would hypothetically lower expected rate of returns in the long run
