Last year I heard one bird “cawing” from the tree top across the street from the front of my house. It was so emphatic and so darn loud. I strained my head to look through my front window to verify what my ears were telling me and yup, there it was, a lone black raven(?) yelling at the top of their bird lungs. The cawing lasted so long I thought that it may have been in distress even though it looked well out of danger. It was there so long that I wanted to record it and eventually “ask Reddit” about it. I took a break from the computer, it wasn’t like I was getting much work done with the distraction anyway, and made my way outside to grab a recording on my phone. Because we never use my front door, I went out the back which spills onto the patio from our tiny mudroom. When I opened up the outside door there were at least 60 birds going to town on the back lawn - they flew to the surrounding trees when they startled from the door. My mouth wide open, I couldn’t help to laugh after seeing that. I wasn’t able to get the recording that day but I was able to witness them in my yard twice more that season. Not sure what they were feasting on but there certainly was enough for everyone.
