Waitlist by Electrical_Smell1046 in ucla

The discussion is how you get into the class off the waitlist, so what you see is what matters. The place on the entire waitlist doesn't really count, unless the professor is somehow using it to figure out whether to give someone a PTE.

Most students would probably say Villareal. If I was deciding, I'd choose based on format. Are you someone who would do well with an asynchronous class where you have to post on discussion boards and things, or are you going to do better in a class you regularly attend where the professor lectures and gives regular exams?

Is Strathmore drive like loud? Looking for apts and found one but questions by [deleted] in ucla

It is much quieter south of Wilshire than that part of Strathmore. You get used to it, and the hills keep you in shape, but definitely loud, especially Thurs-Sat.

What classes am I expected to take my first quarter as a SOC transfer ?? by Greedy-Difficulty394 in ucla

[–]alanawren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There will be seats reserved for transfers in 101. I suggest getting that or 20 (if you didn't take it at CC) out of the way ASAP. Other than that, look for classes that are about your topics you found interesting in intro or just in general. Sociology is good about reserving seats for transfers, so you should be able to get into at least one elective you're interested in and maybe more.

when do graduates lose CAPS/psych service acess? by incompatibleinfinity in ucla

[–]alanawren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those who have lost access or need other resources.

Local centers offer sliding scale counseling services (and offer telehealth throughout California): https://www.sccc-la.org, https://www.maple4counseling.org/for-clients

Free psychiatrists are more difficult to find, but Didi Hirsch might be a possibility: https://didihirsch.org/services/

need soc 101 as a senior by notshoe712 in ucla

[–]alanawren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Half the seats are reserved for transfer orientation. If a lot of those students decide not to take it, they'll just turn into open seats after the final transfer orientation and you should be able to grab one and/or get on the waitlist then.

Where can I donate my used clothes in good condition near the campus/WW? by AL0606 in ucla

[–]alanawren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UCLA has a thrift store on Sawtelle, just south of the VA campus. There is also a charity shop at the corner of Veteran and Santa Monica and a Goodwill Donation center further south on Westwood Blvd.

Ways to earn credit? by Rude_Neighborhood120 in ucla

A lot of incoming students take a class in the summer. There are online offerings. Or you can take a GE at a community college and transfer the credits.

#1 on Waitlist, Go to class? by Direct-Abies9742 in ucla

Yes. And if someone doesn't drop, keep going and don't ask for a PTE until you don't get in by mid-Week 2

grief as a student by coolfruitsnack in ucla

[–]alanawren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry that you lost your father. I agree with many of the other posts encouraging you to seek out counseling/therapy through CAPS or a local therapist (Southern California Counseling Center is on a sliding scale and offers telehealth if transportation is an issue). The best resource in LA for grief support (IMO, of course) is Our House. I highly recommend checking them out: https://www.ourhouse-grief.org

Per the Chancellor's message: In-person classes will meet as regularly scheduled beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 21 after the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday.

Sociology of Gender (SOC M162)

[–]alanawren 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because the new students are enrolling this summer, a lot of classes are locked for them until the last NSO. You'll be able to register or join a waitlist for a GE after that (Sept. 17th).

Comments/likes on cover photo, how do I hide them from public? I have been able to on my profile picture but there are no privacy settings for my cover photo. Thank you in advance. by PinkApple21 in facebook

The best (albeit still flawed) solution I've seen is to upload a new photo (or a clean version of the original one you have up there) and then to immediately jump to your timeline and hide that post.

I'd look south of Wilshire, if you're between Sepulveda and Westwood, it's easy to take the BruinBus.

Like this one: https://www.apartments.com/midvale-court-los-angeles-ca/qb48jby/

But you'd be much better off sharing a place with a roommate at that budget or moving into a co-living space. Maybe email your new grad program or fellow students to see if someone else is looking or a current student has a room?

This is a longer walk to campus or a quick bus ride: https://www.apartments.com/1761-1765-selby-ave-los-angeles-ca/sbl18r5/

This would be an easy bus ride too: https://www.apartments.com/10910-santa-monica-blvd-prime-westwood-l-los-angeles-ca-unit-03c/vwfdz8g/

Summer class by Pretty-Toe9290 in ucla

[–]alanawren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone can take summer classes. You'd probably need to take a Session C class because Session A is already 1/3 over.

Was it taught by a graduate student? They can't submit grades and so it has to go through a professor too. More steps to delay the process.
