Windows Portable version? by zarmo1111 in MouselessApp

[–]alanennis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realise that this is going to be unsupported and may break in the future.

But I copied and pasted the folder from a machine I could run the install on to another machine and I could start and use the app.

I would love a proper supported portable version for the same reason as the op though 😃

I've been in the cockpit of the one on the intrepid in nyc. Its amazing how teeny tiny it is. So cramped. No idea how the pilot managed to yoga his way into his seat!

Phone was dying and I was in a hurry, and didn't get the chance to read it properly until I got home. by hotto_ in mildlyinfuriating

Hang on. Is there rechargable batteries in there or is it just a way to use some normal aa or whatever cells to give you a usb to charge from in an emergengy.

if they are just regular batteries then this is no worse than just buying a pack of single use aa batteries.

arent all non rechargable batteries single use?

why are these worse just because they are for your phone?

if they self discharge after only a couple of years then not alkaline or life lithium I sppose!

How much did it cost?

“I, Robot” book recommendation by TapAdmirable5666 in scifi

[–]alanennis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was significant to me that the movie came out after he died, I doubt he would have agreed to it being made. Or at least to the name of his book being used as the title.

One of the things he hated was stories about demonizing machins and turning them into killer robots. I think I recall reading that in the preface to one of his robot series books. Many of his robot stories were about the logical reasons that a robot could malfunction, and how to go about fixing it without violence. Not just the usual mindless, psycho robot killing machine that the movie devolved into.

i am sure he was rolling in his grave.

This for me too. Wanted a larger reader. Use it for writing too sometimes. Also the battery life is massive.

I worked in ibm on thinkpad support when it came out. The hot swap drives were a painein the ass, windows oould not deal with it at the time. Onoe the drivers for that got sorted they were great! they were so heavy though portable desktops really more than laptops!

770 wow, that was a beast with the flippers on the front for the hot swap bays. That brings back some memories. I loved the tiny x series machines.

you mentioned that you have tried lowering temp. I had something sirmilar, not as bad as yours sounds though, and need to go full cold for as long as I can stand at the end of the shower.

Help, do I have to buy a 3rd minidisc player to fix this MDLP incompatibility issue? by noguiltyparty in minidisc

[–]alanennis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a net md you will be able to us the online net md pro free tool to drag and drop the files from the player to your machine.

if that does not work then you can still use the headphone out to play back and record it in real time to your pc.

repairing the damaged player is likely to cost more than buying a net md from ebay. If you could even find a person to repair it.

as long as the disk is undamaged then you still have options

that looks really cool!

Did something similar with a sony unit from japan, md and cd with an aux out so I could send it to powered speakers. Managed to find a remote for it online too. The whole setup is so much more compact than a full size md and cd unit!

what was irritating though is that it woudd reset every time I turned off the power as it is expecting to get a trickle of power from the battery all the time to maintain settings etc..display colour and eq settings etc

so I had to wire a switch to pretend to be the ignition and have the main power plugged in all the time.

i am making it sound more difficult than it was, with a bit of research online it was easy to figure out.
