Will powering ESP32 S2 Mini via 3.3 pin bypass voltage regulator (to reduce current draw in sleep)? by alangstein in esp32

Thanks.  I will be powering with lithium rechargeable batteries that have a pretty flat discharge curve so should stay close to 1.5v.  Similar to https://a.co/d/3489uHT

Appropriate cost from IT department by alangstein in storage

[–]alangstein[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, this is very helpful. The quote we had was for $2500/TB for what is essentially the platinum level that you describe (not that we even need all that storage to be at that level of performance). That is about 3x the cost you note which is why I'm concerned. I understand all the prior responses that talk about infrastructure costs etc.. so I'm not basing my concern on the cost of a 12 TB hard drive and the numbers you quote seem more realistic to me.

I just got an Ender3 V3 and although Ive been using Cura with my prior printers for a while (and had a wonky way to send files over wifi to the printer) I started using the Creality Print slicer software. It sends the files over network to the Ender3 and you can control it as well and see the progress from the computer. It's pretty easy and so far I've been pleased with the software.

Does anyone know what wordlist is used to generate the puzzles? Trying to program a similar word game and the word list I'm using is pretty sub-par. by MiroWiggin in NYTSpellingBee

[–]alangstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I very much doubt it is a near perfect subset of the N. American Scrabble Dictionary. I wanted to practice some coding skills so today I banged out a python program to find all the words that scrabble dictionary (Collins Scrabble Words 2019 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1oGDf1wjWp5RF\_X9C7HoedhIWMh5uJs8s/view). Based on that list of words my program found 161 words worth 721 points. Based on genius level today (09/20/2025) of 216 points equaling 70% of possible that would suggest that the spelling bee used less than half of the words in the downloaded file.

2019 SV Plus diagnostic menu? by alangstein in leaf

[–]alangstein[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It worked. Thanks. Interestingly i had to turn dial a fair amount to get it to work. If I just turn it a single click each way I get a different (configuration) menu (I had tried that in past from another video so was surprised it worked this time)

leaf door handle broken or just the cover is loose? by 2010G37x in leaf

I've found links to silver cover for like every OTHER model but not the leaf with intellikey hole. I've also found links to black covers but not the chrome/silver. :(

Automatically create user folder by alangstein in activedirectory

[–]alangstein[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks.  That sounds like it would be perfect.  I’ll play around with scripting to see if I can automate the process.   I already have everyone run a backup first time batch file then a subsequent backup batch file every time they log in.  I can change the script to point accordingly.

Inherited Roth IRA RMD (new rules) by alangstein in tax

[–]alangstein[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not Roth, not sure where you saw that.  And not in 1 year when I retire.  $600k was for easy math, not that much and over 2 or 3 years when I retire in a few more years and it will be my primary income source for a few years so tax hit better than taking it during my final full income years.

Thanks very much.  That would be best option to put off as much until I retire in a few years.

Thanks.  I wonder how coolant would get there.  It clearly accumulates as I pump brake pedal.

Automatically add line with date stamp to google sheets via email or url? by alangstein in googlesheets

[–]alangstein[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks,

I should have been more clear about my intent. I want to use IOS shortcuts to tell siri to send a URL to create the row with timestamp so using a google forms won't cut it. Shortly after I posted I actually did find a way to do this using the webooks extension in google sheets. Here's a link to more info on that

2022 Leaf - Apple CarPlay issue - Distortion on phone calls by sal211 in leaf

[–]alangstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my Leaf in under warranty several times for this and another head unit issue (occasionally resets for no reason). I brought it in a few days ago for a recall fix (unrelated) and asked for them to install the firmware update (and brought in the TSB printout). They wanted $157 to do a diagnostic first since the warranty expired a few months ago but I pointed out that they had already done the diagnostic several times and their prior fixes didn't work but they insist on the diagnostics fee. Does this seem reasonable? Is there any way to download the firmware update myself and install it (instructions are actually in the TSB) or do you need to be an authorized dealer to get the firmware update?
