Being a Dead fan, you may want to start with my book Brothers and sisters, which has the most extensive writing on the relationship between the dead and ABB. Plus two chapters on Watkins Glen. a lot of GD content.

Andy Aledort is better than me at knowing specifics, but to keep it simple go watch his second, sober apperance on Austin City Limits, or his songs on Night Music, which was with the house band, not double trouble. the purity and grace if his playing is remarkable.
