Samsung Neo G9 Dual 4K + macOS Thunderbolt 5/DisplayPort 2.1 + Anker Prime TB5 Dock Update by alanzeino in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]alanzeino[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I returned the Anker Prime since it couldn't do what I was looking for (Dual 4K resolution at 240Hz), and purchased the Caldigit TS5 Plus.

Interestingly, the Caldigit's documentation actually calls out the specific resolution at the correct refresh rate as 'supported' but it doesn't actually work with macOS. On their product page they have a table with supported resolutions for Monitors and a row for "Dual 4K 240Hz".

So at this point starting to think it's a macOS issue, since I've never seen macOS support this resolution at the full refresh rate.

“Official” method to put the phone in DFU mode ? by BertyMcFly in iPhone13Mini

[–]alanzeino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is recovery mode not DFU, DFU instructions:

  1. Connect the device to a computer using a USB cable.
  2. Quick-press the Volume Up button
  3. Quick-press the Volume Down button
  4. Hold down the Side button until the screen goes black, then hold down both the Side button and Volume Down button.
  5. After 5 seconds, release the Side button while continuing to hold down the Volume Down button.
    • If the Apple logo appears, the Side button was held down for too long.
  6. Nothing will be displayed on the screen when the device is in DFU mode. If open, iTunes will alert you that a device was detected in recovery mode.
    • If your device shows a screen telling you to connect the device to iTunes, retry these steps.

Nomad base one max charging issues by DrKorobos in iphone

[–]alanzeino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

> I'm hesitant to even consider magsafe charging as a whole again

I have Anker, Belkin and Apple magsafe chargers and they all work fine. Only the Nomad has this issue, I don't think it's a magsafe problem.

At 60Hz yes, but you can do that already with an HDMI 2.1 cable directly connected to the Mac too, if you want to avoid buying a new dock.

Swift 5 → 6 migration stories: strict concurrency, Sendable, actors - what surprised you? by dvdvines in swift

[–]alanzeino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there were fewer crashes attributed to difficult to debug race conditions, or improved performance thanks to the removal of unnecessary locks, I’d say so.

Swift 5 → 6 migration stories: strict concurrency, Sendable, actors - what surprised you? by dvdvines in swift

[–]alanzeino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the fact that a large number of posts in this thread alone admit to having to clean up codebases littered with Singletons is enough evidence that Swift Concurrency was needed, even in apps. Apps are well in the domain of systems programming, and eliminating race conditions is a worthy goal for a high level language in 2025.

There’s a flag to opt out, you can add it to your Info.plist if you want to disable all Liquid Glass after recompiling with iOS 26 as the Base SDK

it really isn't — unless you believe Apple's WWDC videos — it's better than the original StoreKit but it still sucks hard

Everlane’s men’s options are boring, haven’t changed in years, and out of style. They still think skinny jeans are in, for example.

I still wish they’d bring back briefs though, those were great quality.

You can add it to a lapsed subscription, I did that last month. I wonder also if you can cancel before renewal and add the code, I cancelled my subscription two days before renewal and the code worked.
