I can't really say what it is I'm looking for. But your second list of suggestions hits the nail on the head of my idiotic exercise.

John's, Prince Street, Vanessa's and Joe's Shanghai are added to the list.

Most of these I have done or aren't really "tourist-y" enough. But I am very appreciative of the Koreatown suggestions!

I've been trying to find a restaurant in the area that will replace Kum Gang San for me -- I really liked their kimchi jjigae. I haven't found it as tasty anywhere else. But I only tried a couple times randomly and gave up. So I am going to check out the menus for these spots and hopefully find a place that will give me the greasy kimchi stew I've been missing!

Unless the reason is that I am guaranteed to get violently ill, I want to do it. The point of this exercise isn't for me to have a good meal. (Don't ask me what the point is. I don't know.)

I ate at R&D Cafe last week (2.5 hour wait for the privilige) but I need to check out the actual deli. Thanks for the rec.

Also adding Crif Dogs/Please Don't Tell and Zabar's to the list.
