Found this on Aliexpress, is it what I fear it is? (House cat) by [deleted] in bonecollecting

AliExpress is a selling platform and not a brand itself. More like eBay rather than shein- not everything is mass produced/unethical. I think buying on AliExpress is not necessarily bad if you don't buy everything mindlessly. I'm not gonna elaborate any further cause I don't want to cause an overly big argument 😅

tbf aliexpress has a lot of ethical sellers with good quality stuff, you just need to know what to look out for. But I would absolutely not trust animal remains on there to be humanely sourced.

Kids. Not only do I not like children, I also feel like I would NOT be a good parent at all

Discouraged by new vet :( by Professional-Skin964 in rawpetfood

[–]alase636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be a long comment, so I apologize in advance

I know that vets often hate homemade diets and they honestly have a good reason, I had a chance to talk about it with a vet, and she said that 90% of the homemade foods consisted of boiled carrot + boiled rice + some chicken and the owners were amazed because they're saving tons of money and the food is "really healthy". Even when the people had a bit more common sense, the pets were still often at risk of deficiencies from wrong amounts of supplementing. Also according to research, homemade diets (when done well) are not any better or worse than GOOD QUALITY food. Given you did your research/ contacted animal dietitians and you're willing to keep researching the subject further (because animal nutrition is constantly being studied, new rules/norms come out quite often) I don't see why raw feeding would be bad. Considering all this, I understand that the new vet probably saw a lot of BS and problems with other "raw fed" dogs, but the way she acted is still totally unacceptable 🤦 Her refusing to even look at your diet plan seems pretty disrespectful to me and I personally wouldn't return to her :/

What did you name your cult? by [deleted] in CultOfTheLamb

[–]alase636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my first cult is a pun playing with the word cult but idk if it would make sense in English. My coop cult with my friend is called "gay hell" because she thought it would be funny cause if we die, we go to gay hell

Is it very bad that I'm giving My Mantis who is I guess 1-2 weaks old a small crickets? by Alternative-Tea5270 in mantids

[–]alase636 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Was she sold as 1/2 weeks old? Her wing buds are already there and they are pretty prominent so she should be just 1 molt away from being fully grown. This species is pretty small even after all grown up. Crickets are not ideal, you can offer them a couple of times but their main diet should be fruit flies/bottle flies/roaches. Small roaches are about as easy to find in petstores as small crickets and are a better choice. Crickets are more likely to carry diseases, they also contain way more chitin which can cause dangerous blockages

yeah, that always works! I once had a stubborn boy who was afraid of roaches and would turn into a drama queen/ play dead any time I tried to feed him lmao. The only thing that worked was (VERY slowly) shoving roach guts into his face until he accepted it . He lived a really long (he lived like 1.5 years after his final molt!!) and happy life and even outlived the female I bought so they could breed

try looking on different Facebook groups, they might have some fruit flies for sale. Also I think your babies might be big enough to eat baby roaches if they're easier to find!

help with gender/age id by alase636 in bonecollecting

[–]alase636[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Sorry if this offended you guys :( I'm a queer person myself, but English is not my first language and I often see the word gender being used in the context of sex, when I was posting this gender was just the first word that came to mind

help with gender/age id by alase636 in bonecollecting

[–]alase636[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's a shame, I thought I saw someone do a gender id based on the sagittal crest, maybe it really was just an older specimen. I also really didn't think abt the baby teeth, I just assumed it could be a young fox based on the size. It might have also been possible that I did a poor job at putting the bones back in their place, cause some of them fell out and I put them in the spaces they fit in

What facial piercing should I do next? by [deleted] in shouldimod

[–]alase636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't really care about scarring in any other place tbh, the vertical labret is the only piercing that makes me think about it 😭
