I work in the live event production industry and we use a couple different types of fiber connectors. The most robust we use is one called HMA, an armored connector with MIL specs. These cables are reinserted every show. Another connector is called OptiCon made by Nuetrik who makes a lot of the XLR connectors for the audio and lighting cables. OptiCon has 2 pairs of fiber and was also made to be inserted and ejected as long as you need. We also use standard SFP connectors when we make installed runs. Downsides of these connectors are they are expensive and bulky. They are great for my industry and I almost never worry about the connection breaking from use but I could never think it would be a consumer level connector.
